“Let down after reading other reviews, Poor b&b.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Was looking for b&b for the Sept weekend. Sat- Mon.
After looking at hotels.com I came across the penrhyn.
There where a few around the same price as this b&b but we pick this one as we were told there was reserved parking at front of b&b, it was en suite, included FULL breakfast, looked nice in pictures, had tea/coffee maker in room, guest robes etc. And mainly coz of the good reviews on this website.
When we got there on the sat the street was full.
There was only a few b&b's in the street that had parking on there ground, but the penrhyn had none. The guy on hotels.com told us it was on street parking and there would be a reserved space for us. We had to circle the block for half an hour to see if we could get a space somewhere but ended up parking three streets away.

When we got in the b&b looked nice enough.
There was a welcome book that said to let them know if we wanted scrambled eggs or poached eggs with our breakfast the night before.
Was also a small note on table that said what was included in breakfast and said at top 4pppn.
We took it this was for walk in guests that might of just booked the room for the night.
When we came in that night i asked the young guy what time breakfast was at and who we tell what we want.
He when to find out but never came back and the owner was serving a family at the bar and looked busy so I just left it and presumed we would be able to choose in the morning.
The sunday morning we went down just after 9.am, there was a sign on door saying breakfast served from 9am. When we went in the other family was having there breakfast and we got a table, made our tea and toasted the last two bits of white bread there was left. We were expecting them to ask what we wanted with our breakfast but that never happened. So we had a slice of toast each. We presumed if you don't order the night before you don't get a cooked breakfast.
A asked Keith how we get a cooked breakfast and he said just let us know the night before. So I told him we would like it for the next morning. And just went out and bought our breakfast for that morning.
The next morning we had our breakfast was fine noticed other family had not got cooked breakfast that morning but thought nothing of it.

That night when we came back there was a postage note on our door saying remember you own us 8 pound for ur breakfast.
We didn't bother ordering breakfast that night for our last morning as we could get a great breakfast for 2.50 near the tower.
Before we left I paid the 8 pound and asked was it not included as it did say full breakfast, but was told no the full breakfast is the toast or the ceral and cooked breakfast was extra.

We think this is a strange set up that a b&b does not include a cooked breakfast, when we paying 50pound per night for a small en-suite room. Especially in blackpool.
We enjoyed the stay but seen this as a fly twist of words to make more money out of there guests. And the kind of think that puts people off returning.

Looking back at other reviews I notice it has changed hands at the start of the year and only had one review since. Seems the other couple that owned it was running in better.
Also noticed in the b&b they had a coments book which had only one comment in it and was from the family that left the night before.

Also there was no bath robes and the room was cleaned one day out of the three.

Maybe the owners will learn its the small thinks that matter and cost cutting isn't good for buisness.

Also things you should know if ur staying here u will prop need a day pass for trams at 4.5 per person. As it really is too far to walk everyday.

On reading your review I can fully understand your comments regarding the extra cost for a cooked breakfast.
I can also understand the previous Managements decision to at that time charge extra as they did provide cerial/toast/tea/coffee/juice etc in the room price.
On saying that The Penrhyn is now offering all the above and yoghurt as well as a full English breakfast included in the room price.
The information provided by Hotel.com regarding reserved parking was incorrect.
There is free on street parking on King Edward Avenue where The Penrhyn is situated and also on nearby streets.

Im not the biggest fan of Blackpool so going to stay with my mother and my wife left anxious in the least. Whilst personally, I'd have booked a luxury hotel for my weekend my wife and mother between them booked the Penrhyn Hotel. A small guesthouse just off the North Promenade.
Having heard horror stories about guest houses in the area I was dreading it. Whilst expecting a cold, damp, paper falling off the walls room what we got was quite the opposite. The new owners Ashley and Keith were warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms (whilst not huge) were warm, inviting and spotless. The small bar area downstairs was intimate and engaging and Ashley was so lovely and friendly.
We were asked to place our order for breakfast the night before which we did, however, being sneaky I changed my mind in the morning and opted for poached egg rather that scrambled, not a problem was the answer. In fact nothing was too much trouble for this guesthouse. If you want a nice, clean, warm and charming stay with friendly, welcoming owners whose main aim is to see you awake each morning with a smile and also checkout with a smile, then trust me, this is the guesthouse for you! A very good experience!

Stayed at Penrhyn with my husband and 2 young children. Lovely hotel. Sharon and Dave make excellent hosts, warm and welcoming.

The most comfortable bed i've ever slept in, including my own! Crisp clean bed linen and towels. Nicely decorated room and premises as a whole. Only down side was blinds not curtains in room so could be problematic on bright, light mornings with young kids!

We will certainly visit again and will defineitely be recommending.

Thank you.

Only stayed for one night (unfortunatley) but what a lovely hotel to stay in. Sharon and Dave are very welcoming and nothing was to much for them. Hotel is very modern and rooms where tastefully decorated. It was one of the most comfortable hotel beds we had ever slept in. Breakfast (Full English) was excellent, kept us full all day. Would definatley recommended anyone who wants a warm and freindly welcome to Blackpool to stay at The Penrhyn.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3 (Double with en-suite) was very lovely quite room that over looked the front of...
