We stayed here many years ago and we were disappointed then, so generally stay at the Hilton. But we saw an offer for the Imperial and decided to give it another try.
We arrived around 11am and luckily our room was ready. We upgraded to a deluxe room to guarantee a sea view - I would recommend this to anyone staying here. The room itself was ok, although the attention to detail really is lacking. As we started unpacking we noticed a sewage smell coming from the bathroom. Within minutes it was overpowering. I went to reception and they immediately sent someone from housekeeping to see if they could resolve the problem. In the end we were moved to another room. This was dealt with quickly and easily with no fuss, so thanks to the staff concerned!
As a result, we were upgraded to room 118, the Presidential Suite. The room itself was lovely with a huge sitting room with dining room table, separate bedroom with king size bed and a large bathroom. But again, the attention to detail is poor. Cupboard doors that had clearly been broken for a while, shower tap that comes off in your hand and generally tatty furniture. The radiators are broken and can't be turned off, so the room was always hot. While the room was comfortable (as was the bed), had I paid full price for this room I don't think I would have been too happy. On our last night there was a function in the room below us, so the noise could be heard in our room.
We didn't use the gym or pool, but they looked nice enough with a good range of equipment.
Breakfast was a lovely buffet. Good choice of hot and cold food available. Porridge was available if you asked for it, but they didn't advertise this anywhere.
The bar is a bit lifeless and didn't look particularly comfortable, so we chose not to have a drink there.
The location is great. Right on the sea front and about a 10-15 minute walk to the north pier. Trams and buses stop right outside the hotel. The Pleasure Beach is around a 40 minute walk along the promenade. Blackpool has spent a lot of money on the sea front which really has made a big difference. The Imperial Hotel should take note!
There are also a lot of pigeons nesting on the building, which isn't too nice. You can see other hotels have put measures in place to combat this. The Imperial has at some point in the past too, but the netting was so old and tatty it was totally ineffective.
Overall I was really disappointed with this hotel. It is such a shame because it could be beautiful if the staff and managers took a little pride in the hotel. The building needs money spent on it to restore the glory it has clearly had in the past. Basic maintenance issues in a hotel of this grade really pull the standard down. Next time, I think we'll be back at the Hilton.

I am sorry that you found some aspects of your stay disappointing, please be assured that all the maintenance issues have been addressed since your stay. I do hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Hotel in the near future. Kind regards, Alison
