During a recent stay at this hotel, despite high expectations from the only major brand name in Blackpool, I was to say the least disappointed. From other reviews here, it seems I am not alone.
The following should be borne in mind :
Noise : From neighbouring rooms is intolerable - there is no soundproofing between the guestrooms either horizontally or vertically. It is literally possible to hear every word spoken in anything above a hushed tone. This is wholly unacceptable both in terms of disturbance and privacy and if for no other reason this hotel should genuinely be avoided. Almost constant noise at night, from other guests and particularly children in corridors, doors being slammed, vehicles, heating, water pipes, the list could go on. Large parties and weddings are common, according to the staff. I can only imagine how much worse this would make the experience here.
Smoke : The non smoking room I was allocated smelled strongly of smoke as did the corridors. The hotel was apparently full when I asked to be moved. The regular rooms are very small indeed and showing their twenty plus years of age. I was advised that the refurbished rooms are better furnished with refitted bathrooms but no other significant enhancements. The public areas on the ground floor are clean, relatively new and in the usual Hilton style.
Food : The buffet style restaurant provides a reasonable if uninspiring selection of standard items. The cold meats and salad self serving area had insects around and upon it, and was therefore not sampled. The bar area was pleasant but in common with Hilton properties excessively overpriced.
Location : Walking distance to the nearest (North) pier is about fifteen minutes and it is a very long walk to the central and South pier tourist areas. There are no attractions, pubs or restaurants evident or publicised in the immediate area surrounding the hotel. Taxis are easily and quickly available, priced at around $20 to the main tourist areas at peak time.
Unfortunately there is nothing especially positive to say about this Hilton, which is a pity since there are so few substantial hotels in Blackpool. Frankly, the Big Blue at the South end of the Promenade is in a different class - virtually new, clean, usually cheaper, better located, with Premier Inn style rooms and superior dining opportunities. Given the choice, go there instead.
