Well... after arriving after a stressful journey that took much longer than planned my family and I looked forward to tucking into a decent meal and turning into a nice cosy bedroom...how far fetched this idea soon seemed.
Walking into the hotel, besides the 10 foot long que, undoubtedly due to a Friday night rush to arrive after work, the first impression of the hotel is not dreadful, however, the one member of staff attempting to deal with the needs of the 12 or so families arriving definatley was.
The whole place needs a face lift, but i tried to cling to the "don't judge a book by its cover" motto so that our weekend wouldn't be ruined before we got to our rooms.
The most unwelcoming and tedious thing about our first half hour in the queue was the children running riot around the reception area in damp swimming costumes, not making it any easier to stand in a lengthy queue as they constantly pushed behind, in front and around to get from the lobby to the corridor that lead to the pool.
When we finally got to the desk and got our keys we went and found our rooms, and once up the stairs away from the mayhem, i temporarily felt better, until we opened the doors to our rooms and things got much much worse.
First of all, we noticed the absolute frost bitten temperature of both of our rooms, the windows didnt close fully and the heating was not on. The furnishings i do not doubt had been there since the hotel opened and were consequently extremely dated, the bathroom was disgusting, paint was pulling off the walls, as was wallpaper. I didnt want to put my feet on the carpet and i could not bring myself to touch the bath to have a shower, even in the extreme cold.
Extremly deflated we proceeded down to dinner, to be told we had no reservation and reluctantly shown a table. The meal was a roast dinner, which was to be fair not dreadful but not very appealing, the deserts looked nice but instead we left and returned to our rooms as none of our party wanted to eat anymore due to our dampened spirits and limited options.
To our ultimate dismay the beds had a thin blanket, not duvets and the springs in the matresses pushed against the thin material making it very uncomfortable. The temperature in the room was far to cold to sleep, and the wind was whistling through the gaps in the windows, we requested three times for the heating to be turned on, each time we were told it would be turned on soon, needless to say it was not. We spent one night in the hotel, only 1 of the 4 of us slept and for only two hours, we slept in jumpers and jeans it was that cold. The pool was murky and nothing like the pictures, the entire hotel was awful, and we left speedily the next morning before breakfast and checked into a Premier Inn which was LUXURY!!
