“Not as bad as people are making out”

To start with everyone who has made terrible comments you do realise you went to Blackpool ??? not Las Vegas ?? Blackpool is run down and rough simple. What do you expect ? i stayed in this hotel on the 22 of November and it wasnt as bad as all the comments i read. If your going to blackpool to sit in your hotel room and watch TV theres not much point going there in the first place. If you are going to blackpool to chill in the hotel then dont stay here pay more money and get a hotel with sauna jacuzzi and so on.
The bed i had did have a memory foam mattress and was comfortable and me and my partner both sleep well.
We didnt spend hours and hours in the hotel because we were out up the tower walking around the sea life centre and on the beach front.
so dont be put off by all the reviews but obviously i wouldnt spend a weeks holiday here a couple of nights is fine.

Came back today from a two night stay, first impressions not so good, walked into reception area where there was 4 men and a receptionist (one of the men were arguing with a work man over payment) which was rather intimidating,i am by no means racist but the smell of indian food bowled me over!! Got put in room 30.. very basic and unclean, there was dust everywhere and hairs in the sink floor very slippy in socks, the tv didn't work (not a major thing but as i paid £40 a night i expect working facilities) had to search for the hotel number on google to phone reception to get someone to come and look at the tv.. couldn't speak english we managed to move to another room....50.. alot easier on the eye although very basic!! Tea and coffee in the room but no milk the kettles pat test had ran out in may!! Cleanliness not great floor disgustingly dirty (socks were black) beds very uncomfortable after reading on the website 'memory foam matresses' also a strange buzzing noise all night, staff not the greatest of help with anything, bar was closed no heating in the room there was a plug in heater that worked for a matter of minutes before cutting out, when walking down the many stairs the lower you got the smell got worse but surprisingly heating was on in reception where staff where sat about doing nothing.. didn't entertain the breakfast.. staff only speak broken English.. overall not a very good experience probably wouldn't stay there again!!beds/towels were never changed bins never emptied which resulted in an overspill in both bathroom and bedroom, the lift wasn't the safest thing either.

Firstly, just try getting the quoted `rates` as advertised outside! Not a chance in hell. If you want breakfast, you have to pay extra! If you don`t like Indian or Chinese food, you won`t be eating in either. Receptionist only speaks broken English (Russian apparently) and no other `staff` apparently on site. If you are unlucky enough to get a 3rd Floor room, if you are anything above 8 stone or a size 6, you will never negotiate the top flight of stairs. The only saving grace for you is the wonky lift. FORGET any photo images of this place, as they are 99% FAKE and appear to have been `stolen` from a similar named hotel in Blackpool! Electrical items were PAT Tested in 2013 but ran out in MAY 2014 and have not been re-tested. Therefore, doubt this place has a current Fire Certificate, as you need to produce an up to date PAT certificate to get one! Rooms are VERY BASIC with little or no Hanging Areas for clothes (usually just an open rail), the beds are old and uncomfortable and you only get a single, musty pillow. A Kettle that just about provides 2 cups of whatever and horrible, cheap powdered whitener as a substitute for milk. Cheap, flat-packed table, no chairs, no bedside cabinets, slippery wooden floors, no carpeting whatsoever. Tired decor and overall, something you could expect to find in a £5 a night DOSS-HOUSE in London! Oh and by the way, PLAIN GLASS Windows in Bathrooms (seems they have never heard of "frosted" glass here) that does nothing for one`s privacy. Entertainment? Listening to conversations in Russian or, to all the complaints at the reception desk! Drinks in the Bar come in CANS as pumps don`t work! Could that mean they have no Alcohol License either? Looked all around the Bar area and could not see one!! Receptionist is also Bar person! Certainly don`t like paying for staff here!! No working Credit Card machine on site so no chance of getting anything back - CASH ONLY here!! 2 nights were certainly an eye-opener. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! Finally, having lived in Blackpool some years ago and knowing many people at the Council, I will be asking to view all the relevant documentation regarding this place, as it is far from ideal, as nothing appears to be correct in relation to Safety Certification. Perhaps the `owner` would care to "comment" BEFORE the relevant Council Departments / Fire Service pay him/her an UNWELCOME visit ???

Room Tip: None, as they are all Fake!

Edward C, Manager at New Ocean's Hotel, responded to this review, November 5, 2014
Hi
Thanks for your lovely review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us.
I have had the hotel since February and you might have been aware of works still continuing at the hotel.
This season we had over 17000 guests come through our doors and the majority of those were happy any issues that arose were dealt with at the desk amicably.
We are a large hotel and are working hard to better the premises we have spent thousands over the season on room upgrades also with a new reception area and restaurant things are getting better.
The bad reviews we have received are unjust to say the least with all of these people not visiting the receptionist to resolve issues at the time so it looks to us that they are just wanting to try there hardest to ruin our business or just have a good moan.
Luckly there are guests like yourselves who do enjoy their stay here and realise that the pricing structure is in line with the hotel at the current time.
Once again from the management and staff thanks and we wish your family all the best
Regards
Edward

I do try to be positive when giving reviews but this hotel hasn't got a lot going for it. One of the reasons I picked this hotel was because it had parking at £5 a day but it is at the front of the hotel and is 3 rows deep so if you park first you will be blocked in by the car parked behind you. The inside is a bit tired looking, the rooms were comfortable but very basic, only 1 pillow per bed, the shower door leaked so there was a flood in the bathroom after 2 of us had showered. Our room was 47 , when we got back to go to bed we could hear very loud music, couldn't quite make out where it was coming from so went to reception to ask and was told it was coming from the restaurant next door, to be fair the staff went through to the restaurant and they turned it off. The fire alarm went off at about 1am, everyone came out of their rooms to see what was going on but no member of staff arrived, it stopped and everyone went back to bed!
Breakfast basic but edible (fire alarm went off again at breakfast) The staff were very nice but clearly overworked, the receptionist doubled up as a waiter in the breakfast room and as a plate clearer in the adjoining restaurant in the evening. I will add a review of the restaurant next door which is part of the hotel (Blue Oceans) Will not be returning
