“Great food, lovely experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Came here for my honeymoon, and had very nice canapes and champagne in the lounge before the meal, which is a nice touch.
Meal is so tasty and good portions, as sometimes top restaurant tend to go too small with everything! Lovely dining experience and service flawless.
Must visit in lake district.

“Get it in writing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Booked a table for 4 for a Saturday night 2 months ago. Never received an e-mail or other contact. Thought I would confirm but was told the resevation had been made for Friday night, not Saturday and 'couldn't understand why an e-mail confirming the reservaton had not been sent'. Now searching for somewhere to eat to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Appalling service.

“Good food, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

Went whilst on a break to the lake district for lunch. Found the place easily enough, however due to the other guest inconsiderate parking, we had to park in the overflow car park which required walking uphill which is definitely something I would not have fancied in the dark, if going in the evening.
On arrival, the receptionist and waiters were friendly, and we were seated in the lounge area for cocktails, however they do not expect you to order anything but wine/water once seated in the main restaurant.
The main dining room was small but cosy. Unfortunately we were seated without a view of the lakes (there are only 4-5 tables with a view) and I think they like to ensure the room is quite symmetrical as opposed to giving diners the best view.
Food was really nice from starters to desserts and we had breadsticks with cheese/olives on arrival, and an amuse bouche (soup) as well. The only thing was, we had to choose the bread we wanted rather than receive a selection/basket was a bit of a shame.
Service was really good and polite but had a wait with the bill. There were waiters whose English were not as good, but they just went and got another person to help.
The 1% credit card charge & 2% amex charge is higher than expected and they did have booklets which saved money off their lunches (but must be mentioned prior to booking).
Overall, I think it was a great meal and definitely good for a nice occasion. The food met my standards for a Michelin restaurant!

“OK food poor service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

Food was nothing fantastic but OK. There were few staff and lots of guests so service was very slow.

“The food is everything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013 via mobile

The food is wonderful. It really is. Exquisite canapés, sumptuous soup, and a wonderful array of starters and mains, with generous application of truffle. The puds... Yum yum, just how much flavour can you get from a raspberry.

I found the service just fine, some of the guests were stuffy, but not the staff.
