We are a couple (age 28 and 42) and booked a 2 night stay for my Birthday. The couple who own Ravenscroft (and also have a very good Deli in the village of Bowness) were kind, friendly and knowledgeable about the local area but not at all pushy or 'in your face'. If parking is not available at the back of the house, there is plenty (free) on the side streets.
The room was decorated beautifully, clean, comfortable and full of small treats such as various sachets of tea, coffee, chocolate etc, biscuits and toiletries such as shampoo, soap, moisturiser, hand creams, body butter. Even Birthday balloons for me! The bathroom was quite small (larger people may struggle) but immaculate and boasted the best power shower I have ever used! The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept like logs as it was so quiet. There was a small flat screen TV.
Communal Breakfast Room / Lounge was nice and not too crowded as they only have 3 rooms. The breakfast was superb with a choice of fruits juices, cereal, fruit to help yourself to then a choice of either full English breakfast (vegetarian if required), criossants, pancakes and fruit or scrambled eggs and fish. The full English was excellent, very good quality and cooked well. Followed by toast and a selection of jams and marmelade.
Bowness and Winderemere are a few minutes walk (5-10) from Ravenscroft or you can drive (there are several pay and display car parks which are not cheap or you can try your luck on a side street as we did). Bowness has some lovely shops, pubs and restaurants. The Albert is nice and does fabulous Sunday roasts. I would not recommend the Emperor of India restaurant as the service was diabolical. Vinegar Jones' do amazing fish and chips which we had to take away whilst strolling by the lake.
The Beatrix Potter Attraction is fantastic (for big kids too!), there is also a lovely Aquarium a 10 minute drive away (or you can catch a boat or steam train which take you right to the door) which has other animals such as otters, crocodile, marmosets etc. The Motor Museum is nearby the Aquarium and also worth a visit.
Top tip: Regardless of the forecast take waterproofs!
