“Good B&B, Excellent Welcome, Amazing Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

After much searching on Tripadvisor for accommodation in the Lake District we settled on this b&b for our 2 night stay as it met both our needs and budget. From the moment we arrived we knew we had chosen well. Jennifer was really welcoming and happy to provide information and recommendations for the area. We stayed in the Rydal room which was small but spotlessly clean and had everything we needed and more. There was a plentiful supply of toiletries, a kettle with tea and coffee making supplies and home made biscuits. The highlight of the stay was the breakfast cooked by Stephen. I had both the banana and apple pancakes which were both excellent and my husband said his full english and kippers were also extremely tasty and well cooked. The Archway is what a b&b should be.

Had a fantastic last minute stay at the Archway guest house. We would definitely stay there again and the location was also great, in the heart of windermere village. The Room was lovely and breakfast was excellent. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Having read the reviews we were quite excited to be staying at the Archway and we were not disappointed.
We had circled the block a couple of times looking for parking and when we eventually gave up, I went up to the guesthouse to ask for the best car park to use. We were directed round to parking and when we arrived in Jennifer gave us a low down on Windermere and the Archway. She led us to our room and left us to settle in. The room had everything you would expect: hairdryer, comfy bed with feather duvet and pillows, tea making facilities and homemade biscuits. The bathroom was the reason we had booked this room with a large bath and separate large shower. The toiletries that were provided were full sized shampoo, conditioner and bubble bath. All areas were very clean. The fell views from the Coniston room were beautiful.
We ordered breakfast the night before and the full English breakfast was lovely (only downside was lack of Heinz beans as I am quite particular!) and my other half really enjoyed the pancakes with warm maple syrup. On the Sunday morning we had to leave early and Jennifer said to come down earlier and breakfast would be served at 8.15. I had soft boiled eggs with soldiers which were cooked perfectly and the other half had pancakes again as they were that good.
Overall a really wonderful place to stay and we will be back.

Room Tip: We had the Coniston room which is the top floor with amazing bath and shower.

We stayed here for two nights over a weekend. Was a great stay!
Lovely large bathrooms, comfy beds, clean! Even an extra special touch of homemade biscuits, that were delish.
Breakfasts were great, lots of options to choose from.
Would definitely stay again.

First come to lake district and stay in Archway.
We stay one night and make booking before 2 months
Thank you for Jennifer to provide many information & give us a conformable room
Although we arrive early, she let us take the room.
Very clean room, lovely double bed, large bathroom, very friendly & great breakfast (like full english breakfast)
Location very good (just 5 minutes walking to Windermere rail station)
Good view at superior room just 70 pounds (good price).
We will come back in the future & highly recommend it

Room Tip: Book early, just 4 rooms very fast full

My Girlfriend and I have stayed at this fabulous B&B before and I have to say that since we came last time ...there have been refurbishments . We stayed in the "Coniston" room and it now sports an amazing walk in shower and also a roll top bath which is really nice. Again, cant fault the hosts Jennifer and Stephen, they were friendly and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. Home made biscuits are in the room on arrival and Jennifer also made a lovely Lemon drizzle cake, which we could help ourselves to. As for the breakfasts, there are cereals, juice and Greek yoghurt available plus a cooked breakfast of either full English, a veggie option... Kippers, poached eggs on toast, pancakes or a 2/3 egg omelette. Cant recommend it enough and we will definitely be going back again!!

Room Tip: although all the rooms are amazing, we would highly recommend the superior rooms with lovely views o...

Well situated in the heart of Windermere the Archway Guesthouse offers everything that a traditional B & B may offer - and much more. The College road is a quiet stett in Windermere, but yet you are right in the centre of the town (about five minutes to the station by foot).
It has been our third stay at the Archway Guesthouse, each one being loner than the stay before. This time we stayed for 10 days. The breakfast menue offers such a large selection of different dishes, we have not been able to try everything on the menue. Irrespective of what we tried (full traditional breakfast, pancakes, various omelettes, kipper etc.), everything had been excellently prepared (the chief is a professional). The mueslis, jams and preserves are a home-made, so the breakfast alone is a reason to return to the Archway Guesthouse. As if this was not enough you will find home-made cookies in your room each evening.
During our various stays we stayed in three of the four rooms of the B & B. Each has its own atmosphere, some even providing great views of the fells. We have been able to recognise that the owners consequently work on keeping and even improving the already high standard. For example, the bathroom in each of the rooms has been recently refurbished.
The owners (in particular Jenny) did everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. They know the wider area very well and are more than willing to share their knowledge with their guests and provide them with advice what to do and how to get there.
Of the many B & Bs in England we visited in the last years this one is our still our favourite.
