5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2010

My husband and I decided to go on a last minute trip away. One of my work colleague"s recommended the Cragwood Hotel. My husband I werent disappointed at all. The hotel itself was fantastic and so was the scenery. Just having a stroll down to the edge of Lake Windermere after a lovely breakfast was breathtaking. The staff are absolutely brilliant and nothing was ever too much trouble. May I add, the waiter (I didnt ask his name) had the patience of a saint, as one morning (over breakfast ) a very rude guest came in and ordered the waiter for her breakfast.. The waiter politely smiled and did his job. The waiter I cannot praise enough. I would definetely stay there again and would recomend it to everyone.

The Cragwood is a beautiful Country House Hotel in the most breathtaking of settings on Lake Windermere. Located halfway between Bowness and Ambleside it is ideally located for easy access to both. Having stayed at the hotel on a number of occassions, we continue to enjoy every aspect of our stay, from the excellent accommodation, the roaring open fires to the friendly helpful staff who always make us feel welcome.
The Cuisine really is a must to experience, the menu's are well thought out and cooked to perfection. Honestly, some of the best food I have ever experienced!
My partner and I were so impressed, we chose the location for our wedding, which was planned for us and ran like clockwork. Not only would I recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to have a relaxing break but also to couples looking for the perfect location for their big day.
The hotel is also pet friendly so if you are looking for some quality time with man's best friend, you'll find it here.
I am surprised that the hotel carries 3 stars, it should be 4 with a Mitchelin star !!!!!!

We stayed with a group of friends and had a fantastic time! The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful and the food was wonderful - the dessert in particular was a work of art and it was almost a shame to eat it! We have also attended a wedding here - a truly idyllic setting and a wonderful day, as well as Christmas functions necessitating overnight stays - I can't fault it!

Confused by some of the other reviews on here..... This hotel is just average. It is poor value for money, room was twee and dated rather than elegant and classy. Looks great from the outside and the grounds are lovely but you can enjoy them without staying there....! Could have stayed in a B&B for a third of the price and had the same comforts. All the staff were pleasant, breakfast was ok but the place in general has no atmosphere, Lots to choose from around the area, so would consider other options.

We stayed at the Cragwood hotel a weekend and it was fantastic. The room had a superb lake sight and it was very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and the atmosphere really friendly. The lake is just in front of the window and you can follow a private path for getting there. If the weather permits the entire atmosphere is very romantic!
I will come back again, it is sure!

We have just enjoyed a delightful weekend (3 nights) with a group of Rolls-Royce and Bentley owners. The food was amazing and the staff very friendly (they seemed to enjoy working there); and the manager Philip is a "hands on" type helping carry bags or whatever was needed. As the main organiser, I had very positive feedback from all participants. Would certainly stay again.
