“Wonderful Country House With Marvelous Food and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Just spent 2 thoroughly relaxing nights at Cragwood. Everything about the place is top notch. We stayed on the dinner bed and breakfast special option and the dinner was spectacular - some of the nicest food we've ever eaten, presented and served in a thoroughly professional yet friendly style. The grounds are extensive, well kept and lovely, well worth a wander. We stayed in room 23 - immaculately clean and tidy, ground floor with patio door access directly into the grounds, Ideal for our dog who was also very welcome in the bar and public rooms which was a very welcome change. Already looking to go back and couldn't recommend the place highly enough - especially for a special occassion - the wedding service looked fantastic if you're in the market!

Room Tip: Room 23 external ground floor access ideal for disabled access or for those with pets.

We spent a night here in September - after the schools had gone back so the Lake District was less packed. The hotel is great. Set on the shores of Lake Windermere with large grounds stretching down to the water's edge, it offers lovely wooded walks and peaceful gardens to sit in with views over the lake. Every member of the staff that we encountered was cheerful and friendly, the breakfast was filling and generous, the bed was spacious and comfortable - and the towels were huge and soft. The good weather helped but even so this was a memorable visit which we have promised ourselves we will repeat as soon as we can.

Room Tip: Rooms with a lake-view.

What a magical place! My sister, her 13 year old daughter, my Mom & I stayed at the beautiful Cragwood in August. The hotel is beautiful & wonderful Lesley made us feel right at home . The grounds are gorgeous making you want to walk through them even if it was raining . We loved it so so much ! A major highlight of our trip! Thank you so much!

We would loved to have stayed longer. This hotel is in a perfect setting ,with fabulous views over the lake - glorious.
The welcome on arrival was friendly and were quickly shown to our room. The room was spacious and very nicely furnished with everything provided- the toiletries in the bathroom were super.
The food at the hotel was amazing both at dinner and breakfast.
Perfect place for a treat in the lakes- loved it . Very romantic

Have stayed here twice now and had a lovely experience both times.

First time was a romantic break for our anniversary and was perfect.

The location was truly stunning, the hotel and rooms comfortable and food amazing.

I must come back to the food; always fresh, yummy and never the same.

Sitting in the lounge with canapés and making your order then being called through to take your seat as your starter is served is a real treat then back into the lounge for coffee and hand made chocolates, a nightcap and off to bed without having to drive anywhere - its like Downton Abbey! :-)

There are lovely touches like umbrellas, fruit, cordial and cool water on tap in the reception areas, free post cards, tourist info, reading material, newspapers, board games etc.

They'll also do you a picnic which is lovely if you're heading off for the day on boat trip for example.

I saw someone complaining about walking past the kitchen to get into the dining room. You can take the external route instead but I thought it was lovely; they clearly have nothing to hide and all the chefs and kicthen staff say hello as you pass by.

The second time we went we took my parents and my mom isn't a lover of fancy food as she calls it! The staff were brilliant about this with the maitre d Andrew catering to her every whim and getting the very accommodating chef to make her some 'ordinary' food!

All the staff were lovely, polite and helpful but Andrew is an absolute treasure and any employer is lucky to have him on their team.

I was amazed to discover the hotel is run by a corporate events type company as you'd swear it was a family run business with the way the staff are and the personal touches. It takes a lot of skill to achieve that feel.

Highly recommended and great location.

Keep an eye out for their specials - these are well worth it.

A final note; try to head down to the waters edge by the slipway early morning. If you can catch the mist clearing over the lake and the sun coming up it'll take your breath away. Equally sunset on the terrace - wow!

Room Tip: I found the ground floor rooms next to reception lovely as you can nip straight outside for fresh ai...

We stayed here with 2 dogs in two rooms for a week in July 2013 and everyone loved it. Our two doggies, Lulu and Rafferty thought they owned the place by the time we left :-) Our rooms were on the side with doors out onto the garden which was perfect for the pooches who were allowed to roam about the grounds and house quite freely, provided they stayed out of the kitchen and dining rooms, which they obediently did. The rooms were clean and comfy with free wifi, the food delicious, the staff and service lovely, the location stupendous. Highly recommended. You will not be disappointed, especially if you are blessed with the wonderful weather we had. I even swam in both Windermere and Rydal Water as it was so lovely, sunny and warm. Paradise Found!

How quintessentially English, what a rose. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and benefitted from the peace and tranquility of the location and stunning views of the surrounding area. Peaceful and well tendered grounds, made the whole experience a chilled one. Evening meal was great with good wine, every single staff member we encountered or served our party delivered exceptional customer service, which is pleasing to witness in today's society. Thank you for a memorable experience.

Room Tip: Lake views are clearly the most sough after, although the garden to the left of the building also of...
