We had a very enjoyable stay at the Merewood in the summer . We were allocated Room 11 in advance which has a wide bay window with lovely views looking towards the Lake (mostly obscured by trees in August!). A previous review stated that they were disappointed with this particular room but it would be hard to find fault now. The four-poster bed was comfortable and had very attractive covers and generally the furniture was of a good standard.

The staff were very pleasant and quite chatty. The food was of a very good standard - particularly the puddings which were tasty and looked super.

The only disappointment was that we were unable to stay there a second night as they were fully booked!

We have just spent the past few days at Merewood for my cousins wedding, what a lovely hotel. It is high up above Windermere so there are some stunning views of the lake. They took over the whole hotel for two days, from the rooms I saw they are all a good size especially room 2 which the bride had and was massive with a huge bed and amazing views, we had room 21 at the top of the house and was still a reasonable size with a more modern feel then the room on the floor below. The staff were all lovely and very approachable and the service good. The weding breakfast was some of the best weding food Ive ever had including scollops and fillet of beef. All in all they made it a lovely wedding for my cousin and a totally enjoyable few days for the rest of us.

At the beginning of June this year we had our wedding at Merewood and it was absolutely perfect!!!! We exclusively booked the hotel from friday to sunday for all our family and friends to enjoy!! Believe me this is not as expensive as you may think! Where do we begin? The staff are amazing (Lorna and her team) just cannot do enough for you....... nothing is too much trouble, the service is professional, but overall warm and friendly, it really does feel like your house for the weekend!! The food was out of this world, our wedding breakfast was for 80 guests and each dish was served as if the chef had prepared it just for two people, it was absolutely amazing!!!
Every single guest at one time or another said that it was the best wedding they had ever been to!! so if you're looking for a venue in the lakes for your wedding, then don't even bother looking anywhere else, Merewood will not disappoint you!!!
Thanks again to Lorna, Joe, Helen, Zoe, Hayley and the rest of the staff for giving us the wedding of our dreams.......
Much love, Jane & Simon Burbeary xxx

I booked 2 rooms for my family for 3 night stay directly with the hotel after looking at many hotel websites and I'm really happy to have chosen this one.

On a cold February day what could be more welcoming than to walk into a cosy country hotel reception with a crackling log fire. Our bedrooms (5 and 11) were huge and whilst some of the furniture was looking a little tired in places, the rooms were clean and bright and the overall effect was very good. The usual things were there; TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee tray, though sachets of hot chocolate would have been a nice touch for the children. During our first night, one of the rooms had a problem with the heating but this was dealt with very swiftly by the hotel staff who called an engineer to fix it immediately. All the staff that we met (reception, waiting and cleaning) were efficient and friendly throughout our stay.

We booked a dinner, bed and breakfast break. Breakfasts were fine; fruit, yoghurt, croissants, cereal, toast, juice, full english breakfast. Before our evening meal, we would have a drink or two in the Conservatory bar whilst nibbling on a plate of canapes which were different each day. Dinner consisted of 5 courses and everything was of a very high standard. A lot of thought went into the balance of flavours and the presentation. We all ate far too much. The last course was coffee and chocolates which we had in the library whilst we played silly games until bed.

Some lovely features included: the welcoming fires in all of the downstairs rooms which were made up before we came down to breakfast and were still going strong as we went to bed, fresh fruit and daily newspapers in reception.

Windemere/Bowness-on-Windermere itself is a short 5 minute drive away.

I don't like to revisit a hotel I've stayed in as I always think there are other places to try but I could break my own rule with this one.

Stayed in Room 5 mid-week so were probably a little too spoilt. Loved the log fires, Mark the Canadian bar man, tasted pigeon for the first time, best wine list we've ever seen and some suprisingly good value wines for a place of this calibre.
