“Unexpectedly wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

I've stayed in WIndermere village several times over the last six years without ever imagining that there might be a wonderful vantage point so close at hand. However, on my latest visit I bought a box of AA walks and decided to do this one, as it was the nearest. It took about 20 minutes to reach the vantage point and the views of Lake WIndermere and the mountains were spectacular. I felt as if I'd entered another world - and all just a relatively short and easy tramp from Booths and Lakeland shops!

“orrest head”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

When accessed from the A591 the route is longer but more scenic. There is a more direct route which brings you back to the edge of the village and opposite Windermere railway station. I agree with the review which says that for such a low height the surrounding views are stunning. It is well signposted and very popular with locals and tourists alike. Well worth it.

“Stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

A short 20 minute walk from the main Windermere/Ambleside road but the views are spectacular. For such a low height, its amazing what you can see. Been coming to The Lakes for years but this was my 1st visit to Orrest Head. Won't be my last! It's steep in parts and a little tricky underfoot if you are slightly challenged getting about, but for the able bodied it shouldn't be a problem. The view at the top is awesome. The length of Windermere, Morecombe Bay, North Yorks, and the higher Lakeland fells. Spent over an hour just looking (no newspaper, iPhone, magazine or book) just looking. Well worth visiting. Easy to navigate up and down too.

“lovley view”

well worth the effort to climb the hill, slightly muddy on the day we visited but did not deter us from the climb or carrying on over the hill to complete the circular walk

“Stunning views and relatively accessible”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

Easy to find, just off the A591, close to the train station in Windermere

Just a 20 minute walk to the top. Steep in parts but well signposted.

I walked it early Thursday morning with the 2 dogs. Great views but very misty. I went back later in the day when it was much clearer and had great views across the lake. I could see the snow on the top of the mountains across the Lake .

Superb views and relatively accessible. The heavy rains meant that it was very wet underfoot in certain places.

As it was just 5 minutes walk from our cottage I returned on the final 2 days of our holiday to take in the wonderful views and landscapes.
