we stayed at Low Wood during the Great North Swim weekend as my husband was taking part. It was obviously going to be very busy so went with an open mind not to expect too much. However from arriving with our 8 year old daughter and family dog could not fault anything. We arrived early and our room was ready which was clean, comfortable and everything you would expect. The lake view was breathtaking. We made use of the leisure facilities which were also very good the pool and the gym. The breakfast was very good and the choice for both adults and children were varied. I loved this hotel and usually would find something to have a little niggle about but not here. I will definately come back for the event and will book again at the end of the year. I usually do center parcs but the staff, accomodation and how friendly everyone was towards my daughter and family pet has made up my mind to return here. Well done.

the better rooms are definitely worth it - you're paying this much why not stretch to a bit more. Big dirfference in room size, bed and bathroom. Some of the less expensive room are a long way from the main hotel. It is on a road and that can be noisy (live very rurally at home so any noise is noticable though) Stayed during the busiest weekend of the year ( great north swim) and the hotel was heaving but staff still very pleasant and helpful. Buffet breakfast - eat as much or as little as you want - if I was trying to be picky I'd say the bar drinks were expensive and the service at dinner was on the slow side. Would definitely return.

I have a yacht on Windermere and have family in Keswick - we spend a lot of time in the Lakes and I am getting pretty fed up with the hotel trade's inability to offer a standard brand in what is the UK's best asset.

We stayed overnight to attend a wedding - the up sides were the food, the location, the room views and the service - which in fact was amongst the most sincere I have come across - we have had immaculate service around the world but at times we may as well have been dealing with robots - the Low Wood's staff do seem to care.

Now the major fault - ELH - back up your staff's clear commitment to their roles by actually finishing off the hotel upgrading. Visit Hotel Du Vin in Edinburgh to appreciate what a 4* hotel should offer in today's market.

The Low Wood's brand is totally mixed - the reception is good - some of the corridors match this initially impression. Then turn a corner and you could be in a 2* holiday camp.
Our bedroom was a prime example - flat screen TV, modern up to 4* standard bathroom, very good mattress - the rest of it way off the mark and very dirty windows.

All in all we had a great time here but I do get annoyed when hotel owners don't invest adequately when they are clearly pulling in large amounts - at these room rates even with average occupancy rates would take much to finish off what COULD be a very solid 4*.

Fantastic position on Windermere lake side about 30 minswalk from Ambleside. Comfortable well-appointed rooms, charming, helpful staff. Good food and great facilities. Adjacent sports centre with all mods spas and pools. Watersports centre over the road with sailing, wakeboarding and fishing. Boat mooring outside at the marina. Awkward access to car park on entering and dangerous on leaving with a blind exit onto a busy main road. Mauch extended over many years and as such is a bit of a rabbit warren but no less for that. Good evening meals, great breakfasts, bar snacks are limited range but high quality. The bar itself is a bit small, cramped and soulless which is a shame, because a really good bar could make this hotel even better. Not cheap but often does great offers especially out of season. Wonderful walking all around and a regular bus service. All round the best hotel I have stayed in in the area.

We attended the Low Woood to attend a wedding . I was surprised at some of the comments prior to my stay as I knew my freinds had exceptional standards so was a bit curious. On arrival we had a warm welcome and felt instantly relaxed. The reception area was spacious and bright and check in and out was speedy . Our room was a split level room and I have to disagree with previous comments - the room was spacious the bed really comfortable (did not get the comment about the pillows ) and I loved the little touches - soft dog on the pillow ,wine on the table , good supply of different teas coffes and hot chocolate drinks both upstairs and down . in addtiion the room had 2 tv's which is a bonus when travelling with teenagers ! the shower was fantastic and we had no problems with temperature ! Towels were huge clean and white not grey - we had an iron in the room and a trouser press . I have to mention the staff -who were fantastic ! as a customer service manager I demand good service and I was not disapointed - the staff took time to chat were effecient but were not obtrusive - 10/10 guys . The restaurant area was clean with beautiful views of the lake and the food for the wedding breakfast was supberb again staff were excellent - not sure why there are bad comments I actually went looking for the bad decor etc and couldn't find it - all of the 80+ guests who were stayng for the wedding can't all be wrong - we were totally satisfied -thanks
