“Another Great Weekend”

Well, back home after yet another fantastic relaxing weekend at the Applegarth, apologies to Kevin for passing on my cold, sorry.
The usual warm welcome awaited and we were in room 2 for the first night and then 19 for the next 2 nights. Kevin said "Leave your bags in room 2 and we will take them down to 19 when we do the cleaning" I think this was the 'Royal We' because it was Michelle that took them down.
Free Wi Fi meant that I could do some work which is a bonus when I am away from home and even better that I do not get the bill loaded with Wi Fi charges as happens at many other places, well done Guys.
Both rooms were as usual clean and tidy and everything worked, food was excellent, served on time and with the agility that Kevin is renowned for. My usual wine was brought in especially and offered to me without me having to ask, special.
We unfortunately had to have one of our Westies, Hamish, who was a regular visitor over the past few years, put to sleep three weeks ago and we mentioned that we would be bringing our other Westie, Seamus and the new pup with us and that they would as usual stay in the car, this was not a problem. When we arrived and went to our room there was a cuddly toy and some chews and a card on the bed. How thoughtful was that?
A special place and special people.

“Another Anniversary made more special”

Applegarth Hotel & Restaurant

Apr 21, 2008

We have just returned from a fantastic Anniversary weekend at The Applegarth Hotel Windermere. We first stayed here for our Silver Wedding 3 years ago so my husband suprised me by booking the same turret room again for this anniversary. On arrival we were given the warmest of greetings and once again felt right at home. The room had been re-decotated without loosing its original charm, with the added bonus of new T.V etc
everything in the room was perfect, and spotlessly clean
The food and service in the restaurant and cosy lounge was fantastic and couldn,t be faulted. Nothing was too much trouble.
Suzanne & Alan run a fantastic Hotel helped along by their daughter, Son in-law and staff who all make staying at the Applegarth so enjoyable with their friendly manner and cheerful smiles.
Perhaps after reading some of the reviews there could be another Applegarth Hotel in windermere that people are geting mixed up with, Try this hotel for yourself if you want elegant clean surroundings, good food and a warm friendly welcome that makes you want to return again,
Thanks again for making another anniversary so very special Sue & Steve

“super time”

Applegarth Hotel & Restaurant

Having just returned from a weekend break as a party of six, would just like to say we all had a really great time. The hotel itself was fantastic both the building and the rooms. Great to have off street parking with plenty of spaces. The proprietors were very friendly and nothing was a trouble. Breakfast really good, unfortunatley we didn't eat in the restaurant so can't comment on the menu, but plenty of people seemed to be eating .Really helpfull and accomadating, will definatley be returning and would be great to have the same rooms.

We were given a voucher to use at the Applegarth and reviewed the various posts on TA before we went. Our experience didn't have any of the problems that we noted by other users: that isn't to say they didn't occur.
Our room on the first floor was small, but this is a Victorian building:
it was clean and comfy. The rest of the hotel/bar/lounge was furnished nicely and well maintained. Having seem the photos of what it used to look like, it is a dramatic improvement. If you want to see an untouched bit, use the toilet just by the main door.
The breakfast was good. We ate one evening meal in the restaurant. The food was reasonable, a little over overpriced maybe compared to what we ate outside in Windermere.
We were served by all the family members, except the father. We found them all to very pleasant, helpful and hard working. Overall, a very pleasant stay with no Fawlty Towers moments.

“Do Not Stay At This Hotel”

If I could have given this a zero rating, I would have. The mattress on our bed was broken with the springs sticking out and a missing handle on a long window in our room meant it would be extremely easy to fall out of the window if off-balance, in fact my partner almost did fall out of the window himself.

When we raised these issues with the owner in a polite and constructive manner we were completely shocked by his reaction. In fact he used what can only be described as the most foul and offensive language to tell us to get out of his hotel. When I said I would be taking the matter further, he laughingly told us that he was bomb-proof.

Prior to our discussion with the owner we had witnessed a distressing situation when he attempted to throw out a young woman carrying a baby who was visiting an elderly resident, telling her that children were not allowed in his hotel.

Our bedroom was tiny and bore no relationship to the rooms shown on the web site and the food represented very bad value for money.

The whole experience was akin to Fawlty Towers without the good humour. I cannot believe this man is in business.
