“I'd rather slept in the car”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2010

Tiny dingy room. The only chair in the room was inside the wardrove because it did not fit anywhere else. Very hard and uncomfortable bed, the matress was sitting on a plank (rather than slats) which was stappled onto an ancient bed frame. On top of this, one of the bed legs was much shorter than the other three. We had booked 2 nights but left (with back pain) after the first night and were forced to pay half the price of the second night. Blatantly lied by management, they wanted to make us believe the matresses were new...

We stayed here for 4 nights - 2 couples in rooms 2 and 10.
Location was great, poached eggs at breakfast were perfect, lots of restaurants nearby, although we did eat there 2 nights. Jackson's Bistro, a few yards away was excellent .
Although it's not 4* it was perfectly comfortable and clean and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Bar closes at 11pm and it was very quiet after that.
Day tour with the Mountain Goat was great.
We didn't use the car once we were there buses, boats and feet took us where we wanted to go and yes the car park is rather small but it was adequate.

We booked late the morning of the stay , Fred the chap that answered the phone was really helpful , We stayed in room 2 which is the top of the house and you can see the lake from the window. The bed was really comfortable and the room was spotless, breakfast was really good , no cheap bacon or sausage here! Parking is good considering space is a premium in the village and you are a 3 min walk from the lake , we will most definately return again !

Recently stayed for two nights during August.Great value for money considering you're right in the centre of the town.Room was small (No 5) but comfortable and clean.
Parking was tight but having been advised regarding same it was adequate.
Friendly staff, and the standard of food could not be faulted which was reasonably priced. We would stay at here again.

We have just got back from a 2 night stay in the Royal Oak Inn. After making a late afternoon booking over the phone with an incredibly friendly staff member, we arrived early evening. We got the last room in the house. The room was small but perfectly formed with on-suite bathroom. After unpacking our bags, we headed downstairs for an evening meal and a few drinks. The soup we had was out of this world followed by copious amounts of drinks. After a great night sleep in a comfy bed, we headed downstairs for an awesome breakfast which set us up for the whole day.
The Inn is in a fab location, near to the lake, shops and restaurants. With its own parking we could not have asked for anything more. The staff where really friendly and welcomed us warmly. We will be going to Bowness again and definitely be staying in the Royal Oak in.
