“Windermere as the Name Says”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Windermere is a beautful part of Lake District County. Beautiful is the word, here lies the natural beauty created by God. Family or Friends or Couple- Anyone can visit the place. In summers its great to sit near the lake, have gelato or just sun bathe.

“Interesting Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

Very large lake (10 miles long X 1 mile wide & 220ft deep) and enjoyed a very pleasant evening cruise on lake.

It is very busy and more commercialised than the other lakes and can be trouble finding parking. Personally prefer the other lakes like Ullswater & Coniston.

“Great dayout”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

Visited Bowness-on-Windermere for a day out on one of the hotest weekend days of the year so far. we found it very easy to get to from the M6 and found parking in the middle of the village relativelly easy (pay & display car park) by the local cinema before spending a few pleasant hours wandering around. It was very busy when we visited and traffic in the village was manic, the need to have eyes in the back of your head was never more important that when deciding to take on the role of a pedestrian here!! Cars were bumper to bumper, motorcycles trying to squeeze through everywhere and coaches causing general chaos on the narrow bottlenecks to get their passengers to within a few feet of the lake.
Queues for lake cruises and small boat hire were huge seemed very popular.
A large group of swans paddle near to the boat jettys waiting to be fed by everyone and they seemed tame enough as children were stoking them and feeding them by hand with no visible signs of annoyance.
We did find the areas around the boat hire jetties towards the lakeside pub (Crown Carvery) a bit scruffy, dirty and a bit neglected. The hot weather clearly attracting a few heavy drinkers and dossers, this was also noticable in the village centre where groups of 'Stags' & 'Hens' where seen, loud, drunk and generally offensive behaviour which detracted from the place Bowness should be (id expect to see it in Blackpool or Magaluf, but not in the lake district!!)
