“Breakfast the only disappointment.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

The hotel has breathtaking views of Windermere that are restorative in their beauty. The main building is an architectural delight set in beautiful grounds leading uninterrupted to the water's edge. We stayed in one of the newer outbuildings and could not fault our room for comfort, view, cleanliness or décor. Without exception each staff member was polite and pleasant.

The only disappointment was breakfast. Food quality was fair but we were sat on long, narrow tables with scant legroom, elbow space or privacy. Our basket of toast was perched by a staff member on top of the jars of preserves as there was nowhere else left to place it. A bit more space and privacy would have deserved 5*.

Thank you for your review following your recent stay with us and I am sorry to read that you found breakfast dissapointing, when there is a large party in for breakfast we will sit you together as it is often requested from the person responsible for making the booking that you want to all eat together and with the shape of our lake view restaurant long tables is the only way to allow this. I was pleased to read though that you enjoyed all other aspects of your stay.

Our 'all female' party had afternoon tea here over the Easter holidays. The hotel is charming with breath-taking views over lake Windermere. The staff were warm, welcoming and courteous. We were even afforded a photograph with 'The Admiral' ! The food was delicious and the portions far more than we could consume. Will definitely return.

I can't fault this hotel. We had a lovely stay and enjoyed my friend's gorgeous wedding day at the hotel. We went on a boat ride from the hotel and had a beautiful view from our room. It's was freezing outside but snug in the room. Breakfast was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely go again!

Just had the most lovely day ever, my daughters wedding at the Langdale Chase. The months leading up to the wedding nothing was to much trouble. From our arrival at the hotel, the staff could not have made our day any better. The service was wonderful, the whole day flowed, and we didn't have to think or worry about any aspect of the preparations. Everything went to plan, without any fuss it just happened. The meal was superb. Thank you to everybody, All the staff, cleaners, bar staff, everybody was very friendly and helpful.
Its a very emotional day, but I'm glad my daughter and new husband chose the Langdale Chase. What better setting could anybody have. Thanks again, mum of the bride.

We stayed at this lovely hotel in November when the weather was cold and the nights drawing in - it is wonderfully situated on the edge of Lake Windermere and the views are spectacular. The log fires were burning and the hotel was warm and welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 20 which was stunning with a stained glass ceiling and turret with settees and tv to snuggle up in. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and it is situated perfectly to get out and about around Bowness and Ambleside and within short driving distances to many other lovely places in the Lakes. The breakfast was wonderful and evening meal (though a little fancy for our tastes) couldn't be faulted - though you do pay for that privelege.

Room Tip: Choose a lake view room if you can - room 20 is a superior room and the boat house looked great

My husband and I got married here on 24th May 2012 and we had the most perfect day, and we owe an awful lot of that to the hotel and its staff. All the staff were absolutely fantastic and beyond patient with us and what we wanted. We had so many compliments from our guests on the hotel and the day and we could not of dreamed of anything better.

We first visited the hotel on a wet and miserable valentines the year before and fell in love with the hotel and the location and booked to have our wedding there the next day. Even through the February drizzle it was absolutely stunning, and we would have even been happy if it rained on our wedding day but it turned out to be one of the sunniest and hottest days of the year.

Room 20 which I had to get ready in the morning of the wedding was more than large enough to hold myself, three bridesmaids and hairdresser to get ready in, the view of the lake from the window was perfect.

Thanks again Langdale Chase, Andrew and all the team.

Jayne and Chris

My wife and I were married here on the 16th March and we have to ensure that anyone else thinking of having their wedding here considers our experience...and then gets their deposit paid as soon as possible!
We fell in love with the Langdale from when we came on a scouting trip last year- my fiancée just turned to look at me in the main hall and we both knew we could imagine ourselves being wed here. Andrew was organised and attentive and nothing was too much trouble- when the price came in we were shocked as to how competitive it was and instantly reserved the date.

In the months that followed the communication was first class- we would have responses to emails within minutes and felt so relaxed in the lead up.

It would take me thousands of words to sum up our whole experience but I would like to highlight certain key aspects.

The staff are wonderful- nothing is too much trouble to them- special mention to Ben and Andrew but also the Scottish barman who's name I didn't catch who was as attentive at breakfast as he was in the bar at night. Even down to the friendly cleaners who say hello as you wander past customer service at the Langdale Chase is obviously very highly prioritised by the staff.

The food was first class- breakfast was a great way to start the day with good choice and our kids ordered extras which were no trouble to the staff. The Wedding breakfast was amazing with such good choices expertly delivered- if you choose the venison you will not be disappointed!! All our guests enjoyed their choices and the wine was perfect.

Rooms around the main hall are great sizes with extra little areas or balconies and the views are breathtaking. One word however about their location- on the Friday night my Fiancée was kept awake by some noisy guests in the main hall. One quick phonecall to the night porter and the problem was removed. The hotel can't be held responsible for the actions of a couple of rude guests and dealt with the problem efficiently as soon as they were made aware of it which was symptomatic of the way the weekend was handled.

Overall we loved every minute of our time at the Langdale Chase- the snow that fell on the ground on the Sunday morning was just the icing on the cake and we will remember the occasion forever. We will be back every year to celebrate our anniversary and would like to express our thanks to all the team for making our wedding unforgettable.

James and Paula x
