“Oh dear.... disappointed!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

This hotel is in a beautiful location. The swimming pool was lovely and warm and the staff were efficient and helpful.

The positives end there.

Greeted by an old worn out/ripped carpet on the 3 flights of stairs up to reception from the car park does nothing for first impressions.

Room - on the whole, awful. Good quality wooden furniture which all looked to be fairly new.
However, the 'double' bed was merely 2 singles pushed together with a ziplock matress. Bedding tatty with pulls and bits hanging off. The carpet is old & stained. Wallpaper peeling off & stained. Layers of paint on the old radiators, had chunks chipped out. The window panes were full of condensation/white smears on the inside so the beautiful view was obscured almost in it's entirety. Black mould in the corner of the windowsill. Water stains and damp patch on the ceiling.
The bathroom was just as disappointing. Very old bathroom suite with a cracked basin. No window or working extractor fan. The old bracket still left attached to the wall from a previous shower screen which has since been replaced by a fabric shower curtain???

There's very little soundproofing between rooms so be prepared to hear every flush of the toilet from the room next door.

The pool changing facilities need an upgrade but as I have said, the pool itself is a real asset to the hotel.

I appreciate that rooms may be being upgraded on a rolling programme, but some rooms are in urgent need of an upgrade as they are not up to standard & shouldn't be charged at such a high rate.

Unfortunately it was a lot of money for a less than satisfactory break.

Enjoyed a one night stay here. Excellent off road parking. Room exceeded our expectations with a great view of the lake and door out onto the patio. Table and chairs provided outside which we took advantage of on a nice afternoon. Evening meal
was excellent as was breakfast the following morning. Nice grounds down to the jetty.
A large amount of steps to climb from the car park due to the nature of where the hotel is built.
TV in room needs updating to flat screen.

We had a bay window view of Lake Windermere and could hear the birdsong at all times during daylight. The room and other areas of the hotel were very clean, the staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was excellent for choice and quantity .We ate in the restaurant one evening it was also excellent.

Room Tip: Do not forget to take swim wear ,the pool really is heated.

We have just returned after staying two nights attending a friend's wedding which was held at the hotel. Great room, fantastic views, friendly helpful staff and a great choice for breakfast. The rooms and drinks prices are are a bit pricey but that's what you'll pay in any hotel, especially one located in such a beauty spot. I felt the bar menu limited in its choice of snacks and something more substantial such as filled rolls or baguettes to fill the gap before the evening meal, or instead of, would be welcomed. This is just a suggestion though, not a criticism. I didn't get time to use the pool and spa but friends did and they said it was great. I will definitely go back and will recommend it to my friends.

I have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel.
I never normally write reviews but decided to on this occasion.
The location of the hotel isn't very good if you don't drive as it would take easily 1 hour to walk Into the centre of windermere along the main roads. Taxi prices are so highly priced at £10 to get into the centre of windermere.

Our room view was amazing but that is the only positive. The dining experience wasn't so good and felt like we were in a retirement home as it was very dated. Breakfast was poor with not many hot items to choose from. I'd say a premier inn breakfast is nicer.

Hotel is over priced and there is far more nicer hotels in windermere for this price or cheaper.
Would return but only for the views over the lake and on a bed only basis.

In April my boyfriend surprised me to a couple of nights at this hotel. It was an amazing time! Our room looked over the lake with a balcony which was just beautiful. We had breakfast every morning at the hotel, good choice of food it was delicious. We also decided on having the five course meal both nights at the hotel restaurant, food was tasty! Staff were really friendly. Location was great and we got to o everything we wanted to do. Can't wait to come again!

Just returned from the Beech Hill Hotel after an overnight stay for our wedding anniversary. Had a great time, staff were all very helpful, from receptionist to the waiters and waitresses. Room was great, everything you could ask for and a great view of the lake.
Very clean allround from room to bathroom to tablecloths at dinner.
I do recomend you eat in the resaurant, a little bit pricey maybe, but you get what you pay for!!
The hotel may not be suitable for people who struggle climbing stairs as it is built on the side of the lake with steep terraces and stairs, but i am sure this could be overcome as the staff are more than happy to oblige with any requests you would have i.e.being put on the same floor as the reception and restaurant. They also have parking available at the front of the hotel which is reserved for just this problem. If you fancy it... GO!! It's Lovely!!

Room Tip: Rooms 20-25 all have views onto the lake!! Patio doors leading out onto area for sitting.
