We stayed here last year with newborn and returned this year with in laws and toddler.
Service is excellent, staff have a can do attitude.
This time we stayed in older rooms, which were dated and dirty. We even requested our in laws be moved to better rooms. The pool was cold, dingy uninviting.
Food was superb although a restricted menu.
A hotel in need of investment.

We booked the 3 night DBB deal which was excellent value for money.
I concur with the majority of good reviews regarding the hotel, the food was v good, the staff were efficient and helpful, the pool was adequate although the changing rooms definitley need upgrading.
We had a patio lake view room which had been refurbished, it was very clean..... just wish it had been a bit bigger, but at the end of the day you're only there to sleep in it.
The grounds and lakeside views are quite spectacular and we would love to go back in the summer months to sit on the balcony with a glass of vino or two and take it all in.
The only gripe we had was on our last night whilst having our evening meal, a young man came into the restaurant wearing scruffy shorts and flip-flops. He looked totally out of place as everyone else was very smartly dressed. We thought it made a mockery of the dress policy the hotel has, it clearly states in the terms and conditions that smart clothing should be worn in the restaurant and definitley NO shorts. We thought the dining room manager should have challenged him and asked him to change into something a bit smarter. The young man also had the same shorts and flip flops on at breakfast the next morning! Apart from this it did not spoil our stay and we would recommend the hotel to friends and will certainly go back there again.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a refurbished room

Just returned from a lovely break at the Beech Hill hotel- stayed in a family room which was huge. We paid extra for a lake view room which was definitely worth it. Room was great, bathroom was in need of refurbishment but was clean. Ate in the restaurant on the first night- food was excellent & there was plenty of choice. We took our 20 month old with us, they had a children's menu, highchairs & travel cot in the room. Staff were really helpful, happy to provide warm milk for his bedtime drink.

Pool was clean and handy when weather was really bad but changing rooms were freezing & quite small so would recommend getting changed in your room.

No phone reception or wifi in the room but there is free wifi in the lounge next to the reception/restaurant area.
Hotel is approx 5-10 mins from Bownes- would recommend Vinegar Jones for decent takeaway fish & chips.

We had booked a room without a lake view, but the room we were allocated still had a partial lake view, which was a lovely surprise. The breakfast was fantastic, a great selection of food available. We also ate in the restuarant one evening, and the meal was superb. Our only slight disappointment was that the menu was the same the next evening, so we ate elsewhere. We thought that most hotels changed their menus daily, but maybe we're just being fussy?

The swimming pool was lovely and warm, and it was even better that we had the pool all to ourselves for almost an hour!

The room was very comfortable, but could do with slightly better cleaning. There were quite a few cobwebs around! But all in all, a lovely experience and we will be returning at some point in the future.

We stayed at The Beech Hill Hotel on Sat 9 March 2013 on the basis Dinner, bed & breakfast at a rate of £149.

The welcome at reception was very pleasant, friendly and efficient. The staff were very informative telling us all about bar, dinner, leisure facilities and breakfast and made sure we had all we needed, i.e wake-up calls, newspapers, help with luggage etc.

Hotel areas in general, i.e. reception, lounge, bar and restaurant are traditionally decorated with big comfy sofas and I like this as a change from the sometimes ultra modern clinical style, however the carpets and wallpaper in some areas, e.g. corridors and stairways are looking a bit tired and in need of refurbishing. However, saying this, everywhere was impeccably clean and it not detract from our stay.

Room was lovely (very warm!), a bit on the small side but very nicely refurbished/decorated with tasteful interiors. The view from the room was fabulous looking right over Windermere and the gardens below. Nice, new furniture with plenty of hangers for clothes and also lots of drawer space. The room was well-equipped with tea & coffee making facilities (nice biccies!) -the teapot was a nice touch, hair-dryer, very basic radio alarm (don't want that going off!) an iPod dock would have been nice as an extra touch.

The bathroom looked brand new and was spotlessly clean and shiny with some nice toiletries provided. The shower was powerful, nice and hot and we had plenty of fresh towels; everything you want from a hotel bathroom.

The bar/lounge service was totally acceptable, the beer and wine selection was good and service was attentive throughout our comfy stay on the sofas overlooking the lake. The atmosphere in the lounge was lovely, nice and relaxing and staff were on hand if we needed them. The home-roasted cashews and almonds were absolutely delish!

Dinner; the food was of an exceptional quality overall. The canapés were a lovely touch beforehand and the menu choices were excellent (apart from there was nothing chocolatie in the dessert menu :-)). There were plenty of locally sourced ingredients outlined in some of the dishes. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice, quiet and relaxed and the service was very good; attentive but not too much 'in your face'. The wine list was extensive and reasonably priced.

Had an excellent night's sleep; the beds were very large with plenty of comfy pillows and the bedding was crisp, v clean and fresh.

Breakfast; The restaurant was very busy in the morning (and we didn't get a window seat which was a shame on my birthday but hey-ho). The breakfast selection was continental, hot buffet or made to order (10 mins). I ordered the grilled Manx kipper which was hot, fresh and delicious with 2 freshly cooked poached eggs (there was a £3.95 supplement) and was worth the extra wait and pennies! Hubby had the hot buffet which didn't have a massive selection but was, as well, hot, fresh and regularly topped up. Some waiting on staff were particularly more friendly than others but overall the service was attentive and efficient.

Check out was 11 a.m. (ideal for getting home for Mothers Day!) and was friendly, swift and efficient. You were given time to check your bill including bar bill and extra items but what I would say is that it would be useful if the drinks could be itemised/detailed rather than just 'Bar.....' (prob being a bit fussy here and might have been a bit tipsy to remember ha :-)).

Overall, we could not find fault with our stay and considered the rate £149 to be very good value for money. We had an excellent time; loved the room (modern, clean, well-equipped) the hotel itself (clean, oldie-worldie, traditional and maybe in need of a new carpet soon?!) the service (attentive, polite and efficient) the food; high-quality, good choice, delicious!

Yes I would definitely recommend to family and friends if the above provision & service was consistently maintained - thanks x

Stayed here over the weekend, although the weather wasn't good..the views were still brilliant! Beds were very comfy and were in perfect view for the window and TV set. Only problem was because the windows were so large anyone sat on the balcony outside could see straight in! Rooms further across wouldn't have this issue though.
Food at breakfast was good and swimming facilities were brilliant.

Room Tip: A lot of stairs for rooms not on ground floor..views are worth it though!

Found this hotel online and found it met all of our criteria: good views, great location, pool, restaurant on site and a bit of luxury but not too over the top.

Our check-in was simple and very pleasant thanks to the very friendly staff. Our room was on the lowest level and one of the most recently refurbished. It was huge, beautifully decorated with a lovely view and very nice bathroom. It was incredibly peaceful and we had 3 wonderful nights' sleep! (We were a little surprised to hear a dog barking in one of the nearby rooms on two of the mornings).

The lovely bubbly spa bath was a great luxury (although the hot water did run out on one evening, probably due to the demand on water at that time, and was back on again in 30 minutes so not really a problem).

The bar area is lovely and the cocktails were delicious. It's a nice touch to be able to sit and enjoy drinks in the bar while browsing the menu (with canapes) and then being shown to your table. The food in the restaurant was superb and the evening was made even better by the excellent, attentive and friendly staff. Breakfast was also great (and it was nice to be able to order extras e.g. poached eggs). We also enjoyed a light meal from the bar menu on another evening which was also delicious (and complemented by a game of scrabble sitting on the comfy sofas).

We used the pool every day. The changing areas are a little small and cold and could do with a facelift but the pool itself was warm and mostly very quiet.

The location was good, being just a 10 minute drive from Bowness (about £10 for a taxi in the evening). It would have been rather tricky without a car though.

Overall we had a lovely 3 days at this beautiful hotel with wonderful staff and great views!
