Lovely, cosy hotel. Lots of individual touches which makes it very homely. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Set in a beautiful part of the country and very close to Windemere golf club. A fun time was had by all.

We arrived for a relaxing night away, and were not disappointed. The welcome on arrival was warm and friendly. The room was one of the newly refurbished feature rooms and very tasteful and spacious. Dinner in the restaurant was superb, the potted shrimps delicious and the steaks beautifully cooked and presented. The new smokehouse means that there is a variety of smoked fish and meats available as well. The breakfast offering will set you up for the day, no need for lunch, just return to the Wild Boar for another superb dinner! The service provided by the team is warm, friendly and professional. This was our second visit this year and we will look forward to returning again, and will make time to relax by the fire with one of their many whisky's.

Room Tip: The feature rooms are worth upgrading for, beautifully decorated and furnished.

We decided to have lunch at the Wild Boar after seeing they served an 'all day menu' and it was after 2pm when most of Cumbria decides to stop serving food. What we didn't realise was that after 2pm they only serve a limited menu which comprises of mostly hot and cold sandwiches plus a few cold nibbles. We were after more of a main meal so opted for 2 of their platters a vegetarian platter of goats cheese, olives, deep fried brie wedge, pickled vegetables and nuts plus a meat platter with smoked chicken, cured meats and chutney. They couldn't rustle us up any of their triple cooked chips :( Both platters were presented well and tasted good (the chutney was delicious!) but were more decorative than substantial and we left still hungry.

The informal dining area was lovely however, with a roaring fire, comfy leather arm chairs and exposed chunky wooden beams that gave it a lovely country pub ambience.

stayed here 13th Nov with our two dogs
room was great - had its own patio which was great to take dogs straight out to the woods without having to go through the inn
we had an evening meal as part of the deal - meal was lovely, staff had laid a table out for us near to the fire and were very welcoming towards our dogs which although well behaved are not small dogs (one being a large husky)
Very clean throughout, food great and staff were really lovely and friendly and could not do enough for you
Thank you to the staff for helping to make our stay so relaxed and enjoyable and look forward to returning

Room Tip: we had a room booked but staff kindly showed us another room which was available if we preferred. As...

We have been visiting this hotel for many years and have always been made to feel very welcome by management and staff. The upgraded feature rooms are well worth paying for and are all tastefully furnished and in some cases very unique! The restaurant is a steak lovers dream and the addition of the smoke house has widened the appeal. The allowances given for dinner are generous and you need to be very hungry to eat a full three courses. Whilst the area is convenient for walkers on the fells the woodland behind the hotel is very interesting for more modest walkers.A very comfortable venue in the middle of nowhere but Kendal and Bowness are easily reached.

Room Tip: Go for the feature rooms-reception are happy to advise.

We have stayed at the Wild Boar a number of times over the past year and I can honestly say that we wouldn't change a thing. The venue has been beautifully restored and the ambience of the setting means you relax from the moment you step through the door. The food is always cooked to perfection- we've worked our way through pretty much the whole menu between us! The Wild Boar team are fantastic, everything is always efficient and comfortable and the staff are attentive without being intrusive.

The combination of all of the above made The WIld Boar the ideal wedding venue for us. Friends and family have all commented on what a fantastic place it was and how much they all enjoyed the food and hospitality from the staff, I know our guests are all planning return visits!

We can't recommend The Wild Boar highly enough and we're looking forward to our next visit. Thanks to a fantastic team who made our Wedding Day absolutely perfect :)

Just returned from our sons wedding weekend at the Wild Boar. From the moment we arrived on Friday to the time we left, we had a fantastic time. The setting of the hotel, rooms, food and staff were magnificent. It was a treat to sit and relax by the cosy log fires with family and friends. The rooms were all individual and spotless. The food was superb and a special mention must go to Anthony and all the staff for making it such special weekend. We are looking forward to returning and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit the lake District.

Room Tip: we had room 18 which had a magnificent four poster bed.
