Oasis Whinfell is on our doorstep and the children love it and it is great for them so how can you say no. However, children dont understand the cost, cleanliness, state of the beds, etc, etc. We have stayed in all kinds of lodges and every time they have been under-equipped and basic for the price. If you are in a party of 8 and are staying in a 4 bedroomed lodge you get the same sized fridge as a 2 roomed lodge, which is tiny - Our icebox this time was totally iced up so no room for so much as a pack of peas.
Because of the disasterous experiences we have had dining at Oasis in the past, this time we decided to cook our own meals - but where do you put all the fresh food??
Even the executive lodge which we paid a fortune for one year had mould around the bath, sheets that didnt fit the bed, stale duvets. Ghastly! If you are a family of 5, booking activities can be horribly expensive and not good value for money either. This visit, the fencing activity was good but couldnt get upstairs with the pram because disabled lift broke down and I was locked in as no way to release the door from inside so had to bang loudly until someone heard me and let me out. 2 very nice members of staff came to my rescue and helped carry the pram up the stairs whilst I carried all the bags, coats and other gear. Considering the sheer number of prams and pushchairs - why isnt there a proper lift?
There were no towels on arrival even though they were included in the price of the lodge. Staining on the bathroom ceiling over the bath was unpleasant.
The showers are an accident waiting to happen because even after 10 years they are still not thermostatically controlled so water temperatures are uneven - and certainly hot enough to scald a child if someone were to turn a tap on elsewhere in the lodge. There should be a warning notice in the bathrooms pointing this out.
I'm writing this today on arriving back home because I have just heard that the pool was closed a couple of weeks ago due to a sickness bug at the site. 2 of our children were violently sick last night and 2 others are feeling very unwell. We had a 3 month old baby in our party this time and there were so many tiny babies in the pool and pregnant women.
If Oasis were in full knowledge that this bug existed then they had a duty to inform holiday makers before arrival so that families with small children could make an informed decision whether or not to risk their health.
Our family is supposed to be travelling to the Isle of Mull on Monday morning, by trains and boat, a journey of 5+ hours. This is already booked and paid for. I will be livid if we can't go because we were denied prior knowlege of the Oasis bug and really, really angry if someone is sick on the journey - what a nightmare
The basic concept of Oasis is great but why can they still not get it right despite company takeovers.
I think I have said a final goodbye to Oasis - enough is enough.
