“What a turn around - a great place to eat and drink”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

This is local and has been open and closed over the past few years and has now got its act together serving good food, with friendly inviting staff that giver enough attention not too much.

The refurbishment is good with interesting false beams yet fantastic toilets - if you judge where you eat by the toilet quality then this is one for you - if the food does not do it the toilets will. best in the eden valley.

best advised to book and ensure you eat early as these do not serve late.

“Fast friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

On arrival found a table near the log fire which was alight. A female member of staff came and took my order for a meal and a drink. She was very friendly and efficient. The Meal came very quickly and was freshly cooked and hot. The price was very reasonable
The pub is only 6 mins approximately from the railway station.
(ideal if you are making a return journey on settle and Carlisle line)

“A good pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

My wife and I were in a shop in Alston and asked the lady there if she could recommend a good place to eat on the way to Appleby and she told us she had heard this place had been done up and that she had heard it was quite good, so we tried it. It was, thank you and it's nice to see that some public houses now put more effort into looking after their paying public, so perhaps the banking crisis/recession (and some people becoming more choosy) has done some good after all!

“Just what you want”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

The welcome here is very warm and the menu is helpfully constructed. There are good pub favourite dishes in generous proportions but there is a parallel menu of mini portions, the same dish but at a size that is good for lunch or a smaller appetite. There is an interesting collection of beers. If I lived inI this village I would be very happy to have this lovely little place on the doorstep. Highly recommended.

“Really friendly, lovely food nice decor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

We were warmly welcomed, the real ale was fantastic and the food was really top notch bar food. The lady that greeted us behind the bar was both friendly and switched on to customers needs - you could see that she took time to be the same with everyone there too.
