“Still delivering high standards”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2011

What a change to find a place where people really care. We always enjoy visiting this hotel.
Excellent service, food and accommodation. The owners are constantly improving the facilities and improving the already very high standards. The welcome is warm and friendly.

We got married in march at this hotel and cannot speak highly enough of it, everything was done to make us feel welcome, we wanted a small and intimate wedding and this did not disapoint, the room we got married in was gorgeous and the food was the best we have ever eaten. The room we stayed in had a spa bath/jacuzzi which we thought was a lovely, luxurious touch. would recommend this hotel to anyone and are hoping to return for our anniversary.

Very good service at this family run hotel. Comfortable room and excellent food. Shower in en suite rather than a bath/shower perhaps a drawback for some. This is the only criticism

We used this hotel for several years as the venue for day long strategic meetings, sadly the business has moved and so we no longer meet there. The facilities are first rate for smaller groups and the staff are very attentive and friendly, but make sure there are no interruptions. When you break for refreshments and lunch the service and quality are excellent, you can stroll in the very pleasant gardens or relax in the comfortable lounges. Temple Sowerby House is a prime example of a properly run, immaculately maintained country hotel complete with the added bonus of stunning cuisine! The owners make everybody welcome and seemingly nothing is too much trouble.

My wife and I stayed here for one night, en-route to Scotland from Yorkshire.
The hotel is in a lovely village just off the A66, very near to Penrith, so a great stopover hotel for travelling North or South.
We had a very well appointed deluxe twin room, with spa bath.
The beds were extremely comfortable, the bathroom well stocked with top quality toiletries, and plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits provided.
We ate in the hotel, as it was a Sunday, and were in no way disappointed with the quality, value or service of the restaurant.
The food was well prepared, well presented and tasted exactly as you'd hope for a restaurant situated amongst all of the local produce roaming the hills!
Excellent meal, excellent value, a lovely atmosphere, and very friendly staff.
We'll definitely stay again on our way North.

We stayed for one night on our way home from Scotland. It's pleasantly located in the high street of a small village with views of open countryside. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a leisurely drink in the intimate and well stocked bar before sitting down to a delicious supper in the conservatory dining room. Our bedroom was comfortable with a sofa and the bed with good quality linen made for a good night's sleep.

Every time I 'phone this hotel for a meal or a room I'm always relieved when they say they can accommodate us. It really is a gem of a place & the food is wonderful. It can only be a matter of time before it is discovered. We stopped off for a meal on the way back from a trip to Devon & Cornwall where we ate at several "named" restaurants. In our opinion Ashley can more than hold his own & outshone several with his excellent cuisine. Owners & staff try very hard to please & keep up their exacting standards to provide a memorable experience
