“Nice B&B in Penrith”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2011

My wife & I recently stayed here on a trip from London to Edinburgh and found it to be a very nice, affordable B&B. The room was very nice - excellent bedding, all very clean. The breakfast was also very good.

We unfortunately forgot our coats (who knew it'd be so warm!), but the owner very kindly held onto them for us until the following weekend when we swung by on our way back from Edinburgh.

As a plus, they have a bathroom which is completely handicap accessible.

What a gem of a place. I booked the rooms some time ago but decided to pop in on spec just to see if we could have a quiet room ( my partner needs his sleep) . Phil was very helpfull , showed me all of the available rooms and was happy to alter our original booking Every room was beautifully and tastefully decorated and immaculately clean.

I arrived unannounced and Phil took me through the kitchen which was as scrupulously clean as the rest of the house. Its nice to know that the normally unseen parts of the guest house is a clean as the rest.

Our stay was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. We had some champagne so they offered to chill it for us and provided glasses as well.

The bed was very comfortable and all the extras were of the highest quality. I cant praise the place enough. The room and breakafast was as good and any 4 & 5 star hotel I've stayed in.

It is definately the place to stay in Penrith and I would recomend it without reservation

I stayed at Ashberry Guest house along with my partner and extended family following trawling reviews on trip advisor for a lovely hotel in Penrith at the right price. Lets say, we were not disappointed and we all were overly impressed with Ashberry. I booked three specific room numbers over the internet which was quick and easy to do and paid a bargain price of £320 for three rooms for two nights (three double rooms with one occupied by one person) We were booked into the Aqua Sana at Whinfell forest the following day; the hotel is literally five minutes drive in the car from centreparcs and the hotel is so easy to find being only a five minute drive from the m6. Upon our arrival at Ashberry, we were greeted by Phil and his wife who can not do enough for you. Phil shown us to our rooms and was very informative about the room and local area (bars/restaurants only 5 minutes walk from the b&b) Our room which was a good sized double, clean, and with modern decor. The other two rooms were good sized doubles with an interlinking door. The whole hotel is beautifully decorated and furnished from the bedrooms, to the living and dining room area. Breakfast (which is included in the price) is a choice of tea / coffee, juice, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt and a full english breakfast. I can not rate this hotel enough and both Phil and Vanda should be extremely proud of their achievements at Ashberry in the last 12 months!

We had planned a weekend treat and booked ourselves and friends/family into a spa day at Whifell forest centreparcs aqua Sana so we looked for hotels in penrith within a few miles of centre parcs. Trying to avoid the usual large chain and faceless hotels we decided to book the Ashberry guest House after reading great reviews on trip advisor.......we was not disappointed!!

We were greeted by Phil (and a beautiful floral smell) who instantly put us at ease, he showed us to our rooms taking time with each couple to show you where everything was in the room, how to turn on the heated towel rail etc and where to find the password is we wanted to access the wifi. He explained the welcome book which had an extensive selection of local menus and he made some personal recommendations (which we followed!!)

The guest house is brand new and it is utterly stunning. Each room is well decorated/furnished, welcoming and a real treat for the senses. The beds were stupidly comfy and the duvets of such good quality it was like being hugged! There was no shortage of tea, coffee and milk for making drinks and the same for the towels. The room we was in (room 5) also had a little space between the door for room 4 (where our friend was staying) so both doors could be opened to make them adjoining (the door into the space between the rooms could be locked making room 4 and 5 one large room) or the 'east wing' as we aptly named it!!

The guest house is 3 minutes walk into the centre of Penrith which for a small town offered plenty of bars, pubs and restaurants etc and it looked like it also offered many shops however we didn’t go during the daytime.

Breakfast on our first morning at Ashberry was welcoming, with a great selection on offer of cold breakfast items (juice, cereals, yogurts etc) followed up by a fantastic full engligh breakfast made with local produce (we had to order less the next day as we just couldn’t eat it all!!!) All served up by Phil who again was attentive but not imposing.

On returning that night all of our rooms had been cleaned fully, beds made and tea/coffee tray fully stocked which was followed the next day by another great breakfast.

We almost feel like we’ve robbed the place with what we paid (plus its the only place i know who charges less when only 1 person is staying in a double room!!), we have stayed in places not as nice which have charged a hell of a lot more and offered less. The Ashberry guesthouse is certainly a place we will return to next time were up in the lakes.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a 2 night stay at Ashberry Guest House, Penrith.

We arrived late on Saturday night and were greeted by Phil, who couldn't of made us feel more relaxed and at home. He showed us to our room which was beautifully decorated and spotless.

In the morning we met Vanda his wife who cooked us an amazing breakfast. Both Vanda and Phil were down to earth and made sure our stay was special.

This B&B is definitely the best B&B I've stayed in and I would recommend to anyone. Spotless, beautiful and relaxing. The B&B is 2 min walk into Penrith so the location is perfect.

Big Thank you to Vanda and Phil. We will definitely be back. Keep up the good work

Regards Claire & Paul x

My husband and I stayed in this lovely guesthouse for 1 night to break the journey up to scotland for rugby trip. Found through late rooms.com. The ensuite double room was beautifully furnished and modern. Lovely breakfast lounge room downstairs with plenty of choice of breakfast including cereals, fruit, yoghurts, fresh fruit. We opted for full english which was beautifully cooked and didn't have to wait long for it. The owners phil and vanda were friendly and welcoming. The guesthouse was centrally located and just a short walk away from shops, restaurants and pubs. We opted to go to the Agricultural pub. A really oldy worldy pub with log fire, cask ales and proper pub grub!!! We would recommend Ashberry guesthouse and would go back again. See u in 2 years for the next scotland v wales game :-)
