As our house is on a very busy road in West Sussex we found the peace and tranquility of the Louthwaite B&B wonderful. We stayed in the Helvelyn room with wonderful views. Good rest - we were in bed mostly by 9.30 after walking on hills around Ulswater, both low and high for up to 4 - 6 hours. The location is ideal for walks from the B&B and to Ulswater, only 10 minutes to Patterdale, and reaching those high hills if needed such as Place Fell, Helvellyn, Fairfield.
Fantastic breakfasts - in fact we skipped the cooked most days as we so enjoyed the homemade muesli/compote, yoghurt etc. and of course Tina's homemade bread. It was so good we went to the Mill and bought some flour to take home and try for ourselves. Fingers crossed. We eat in most evenings and were very thankful for this. When you have walked a good distance and have just had a hot bath/shower, its rather nice to come down and have the meal all ready for you. I recommend it. One advantage is you can also bring your own wine. Also a lovely cosy fire on cold frosty evenings.
Jim if very knowlegeable on all fells in the Lakes and can give you hints and tips on where to go if you are not sure. We did several low walks around 6 miles and they were fantastic. A great place to stay and lovely hosts [including daughters] - highly recommended.
