WOW! Vegan food in the Lakes District? Such a cute little restaurant - and what a great surprise! It's hard enough finding vegan breakfast in the Bay Area and I was surprised to find the Pedlar Cafe. My mom and I ordered a small breakfast - two hashbrowns and one homemade vegan sausage, with coffee drinks. The potatoes were two gorgeous triangles of hash browns, perfectly lightly crisped outside and tender inside but not greasy. I can barely describe the homemade vegan sausage - it was soft, not like a Tofurkey or Field Roast sausage that you could pick up in hand and eat like a hot dog -- but it was shaped like a sausage, seared on all sides and about 8" long on the plate, maybe 2" around - and had such amazing delicious texture and flavors. It was really a "don't miss" - and I wish I had that recipe!
The cafe itself is super cute and the young women who work there are very friendly and helpful. They also have a selection of desserts -- the vegan chocolate cake is absolutely delightful. Rich, tasty, moist and fluffy - with a frosting that was not overly sweet and just the perfect amount.
Definitely a great place for a vegan or vegetarian to stop for a meal in Keswick!
