“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We have just arrived back from Keswick. We have had a excellent three nights stay at Oakthwaite House. The hosts Peter and Sandra are so welcoming, and do everything they can to make your stay a memorable one. The rooms are spotless and so well equipped. We stayed in the smaller room but wasn't disappointed at all, there's a place for everything. We got complimentary chocolates on arrival on our bed, bottles of water, biscuits and bathroom condiments. The breakfast was delicious, cooked to perfection, and plenty of choice. Oakthwaite House is an a quiet area close to the town centre (5 mins walk). North Lakes is a lovely area, there are so many beautiful places to see, one of our days we walked around Derwent Water from Keswick which is about 8 miles round and very flat, it took us approx 5 hours with stops on the way. If you can't make it all the way round you can catch the boat back from one of the many pickup places, (just pick up a leaflet of times and places from the tourist information centre in keswick). We will strongly recommend this Guest House. Thanks again Peter and Sandra, we hope to come back in the near future.

We booked our stay at Oakthwaite House some months ago as a birthday celebration. We have stayed here numerous times with previous owners David and Karen and we have recommended family members and friends here too. We would not hesitate to recommend still with new owners Peter and Sandra. They were extremely attentive and we had a nice surprise of birthday flowers and a card in our room and my parents room as it was a joint birthday celebration! The breakfast was great and even the egg white on my fried egg was taken off on the second morning as I don't eat it! The rooms were spotlessly clean and the complimentary chocolates were beautiful. All in all we had a great stay and we would definitely return.

Room Tip: Room 2 is extremely comfortable and roomy with a superkingsize bed. The shower is also really powerf...

We recently stayed at Oakthwaithe for 2 days. Peter and Sandra (new owners) were most welcoming and friendly. Peter offered to carry our bags to our room. Our room (2) was worth every penny. It is spacious, immaculately clean and has an amazing super king size bed which was a dream. The bathroom was spotlessly clean, very modern and the shower is fabulous. I could mention all the extras in the room but feel it would be a shame to not have some pleasant surprises when you arrive. The room is located at the front and I had both windows open; there was no noise disturbance at all, a very quiet area. The breakfast was also amazing especially the granola and cooked breakfast. Everything is done exactly how you like it and nothing was any trouble to Peter (who is front of house for your breakfast) or Sandra (super chef). I am an extremely fussy person and there was nothing at all I wanted to change. I would like to congratulate Peter and Sandra on how organised they are considering they have only taken over this establishment since July ‘13. My husband and I enjoyed our stay here very much and would highly recommend Oakthwaite Guest House to anyone reading this review. Try it for yourself.

We booked our stay at Oakthwaite some time ago after reading the Trip Advisor reports for the previous owners, and were hopeful that Peter & Sandra would be able to live up to the high standards of their predecessors. We arrived at 5pm on a beautiful warm sunny Cumbrian evening and were greeted with an equally warm welcome from Sandra as she tended to her flowers in the front garden. Peter took care of the booking in duties and kindly took our luggage to our room. We were in room 5 which is one of the smaller rooms to Oakthwaite but suited our needs perfectly. The room was presented wonderfully and Sandra & Peter certainly have an eye for detail, with a small box of chocolates on the bed and fresh bottled water on each bedside table. The ensuite was spotless with lovely toiletries provided and the power shower was fantastic.
Next morning we went down for our breakfast which we had chosen the previous night, the Granola, yoghurt & honey was really delicious, as was the second course of tastey bacon, sausage, egg, mushrooms etc etc. Peters attentive hosting was second to none and he ensured everything was cooked and presented to individual taste. A bowl of fresh fruit was available for guests to take if they wished to.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Oakthwaithe and Peter & Sandra made our short stay very enjoyable and relaxing. The location is great, the guest house is great and the owners are great, 10/10 around.

We absolutely love Keswick and have stayed a number of times at this gorgeous B&B. We have to admit that once we'd learnt David and Karen had moved on we feared that it just wouldn't be the same..... we needn't have worried! Peter and Sandra are equally as attentive, even more welcoming (if that's possible) and the standards are just as high as ever, including the breakfast! All this despite still very much settling in themselves so hats off, we'll certainly be back again sometime soon to stay at our favourite place, in our favourite place!!

We had a lovely stay, we were in room 4, the dorma room, although compact it was laid out perfectly, the welcome bags were the best we have seen, everything needed and then some, the chocolates were also a lovely touch. Peter and Sandra were wonderful hosts checking we had everything we wanted, even down to the pint of coffee at breakfast, the granola was gorgeous, and some of the best bacon we've ever had.
The location is fantastic with great views and a 5 minute walk into Keswick, we will definately stay here again if we visit the Lakes and will highly recommend Oakthwaite to everyone.
