2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013 via mobile

The place was busy. Instead of loving it and chasing tips/even just providing a pleasant experience staff all seemed to be having a horrible time. Food (though ok- but never order a side of veg, talk about over boiled and boring) was pretty much just thrown at us. Also it was almost difficult to pay for the food at the bar as everyone was so miserable! Sorry guys would like to but wont be coming back.

We stayed recently for a large event in Keswick. We had a total of 6 rooms. All rooms (even my small little room No1) were very clean and well presented.
The hotel did have a problem with power on our first night, but that could not be helped and the staff were in good sprits and helpful, power was all good next day so we had one night of dark room (glad I packed my head torch!)
The beds may be a little old and tired in some rooms as a few of us had varying nights sleep, again no complaints from me as my bed was nice and cozy!!!
Negative point-
Toilets in bar. Without a doubt the most smelly loo's Ive ever been into. why???
Food, we ate out a few times in Keswick and had some great meals, the place is geared up for serving substantial fodder to hungry walkers.
This hotel however was at best pretty average. Our main issue was the breakfast, we have never tasted anything so bland, it says something when the sausages taste the same as the bacon which has the same taste as the eggs! After the first day most of us switched to toast and just bacon butties.
We did eat one evening with 6 of us opting for Steak and chips, they were fine, but just that fine/average/nothing special.
As a guest I would say defo stay at this very centrally located clean and convenient hotel but eat elsewhere in the evening.

We normally get very positive comments regarding our breakfast, on this occasion however we didn't hit the mark. Please accept my apologises, we have made some menu changes recently and I sincerely hope you will revisit and taste the improvements. Please accept my apologises for your last visit.

Kind regards,
Tim Banks - Manager and all the team at The Inn at Keswick.

We stayed for two days and found the staff helpfully and friendly. The atmosphere was relaxed and the location could not possibly be better both for Keswick itself or the Lake District as a whole.
The breakfast is a must and having eaten such a surfeit of food, searching for somewhere to eat lunch became redundant.
Parking as is the case in any Lake District town was 'interesting' but that is par for the course when staying in towns that have 'evolved' rather than been planned.
We will stay again.

We stayed at the Inn over Christmas and had a wonderful few days. The staff could not have been more helpful if they had tried. Our room wasn't huge but it was cosy and to be honest we weren't bothered anyway because we were only sleeping in it. The food was lovely including Christmas Dinner and we will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff who helped us to have a lovely Christmas x

Overall a very pleasant Inn, right in the centre of Keswick. The service from all staff be they in the bar, reception or dining room was helpful and friendly. We also commend the in-house pub meals which are largely sourced from local suppliers.

Two negatives for us - Firstly our twin room was so tight for space that the two beds did not have an inch of space between them. Secondly, lack of a direct intercom room to reception. Ordinarily the latter would not be a problem, but we woke in need of the loo during the night to find all our room lights were inoperative! Fortunately, we had packed a tiny 'pencil torch' which we located after some foraging. This enabled us to locate a mobile phone and call the hotel via their land-line. The person on night duty advised to open a panel above our door and trip a switch to restore our lighting. The lights tripped out again the next day - less of a problem in daylight hours and we knew the solution!

Despite the negatives, we enjoyed our stay and look forward to a return visit some time in the future.

I am sorry you endured some maintenance issues on your visit. Unfortunately we are a former eighteenth century coaching inn and sometimes it is unavoidable. We do sell our rooms as comfy and cosy. I do hope this didn't detract your stay too much and we hope to see you again soon.

Kind regards,
Tim Banks - Manager and all the team at The Inn at Keswick.

We had two twin rooms at the Inn last weekend. Whilst the rooms are small, they are well presented and were more than sufficient for our needs. Bright, clean and modern bathrooms (although the shower pressure was dismally low).
The Service we had over the weekend, and the quality of the food (including a great breakfast) was excellent.
Friendly staff and prompt service - it's not hard, but when done well, makes a lasting impression.

Well done - we'll be back.
