“A most enjoyable visit, we plan to return.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2011

We enjoyed everything about our visit from the warm welcome on arrival to or departure four days later. The rooms were comfortable, and two well furnished lounges with lovely views were a very nice touch.

Very friendly family, clean rooms all with great views. 10 minute drive from Keswick, but far enough away from roads to give peace and quiet. Ideal location for some supreb walks. Catered for a vegatarian with issues. Can't recommend this place enough. Looking forward to returnng at some point.

Room Tip: Contact them directly if you have special requirements, they'll happily try to help.

Visited with my wifes family just before Easter. What a great location, a short walk from Derwent Water and a short bus ride from Keswick.

Met on arrival by Janet with a lovely cup of tea and the friendly atmosphere continued during our stay.

Bedroom was nicely laid out if not a bit small (probably to allow for the ensuite). View was to die for. Bathroom functional - but no proper shower

Breakfasts were superb and cooked to order

We just had three nights at this beautifully located guest house and really enjoyed it. On arrival Janet made us a pot of tea to take in one of the two lounges which was most welcome - much nicer than having to use the room tea service with the little pots of UHT provided by most guest houses. Everywhere was really clean, staff friendly and accommodating and the house and gardens are great. A large, high-ceiling house with larger than average bedrooms - I would definitely stay again. Compared with hotels in the area, it beats them into a cocked hat, especially for the price. It could be improved by a proper shower over the bath but it was lovely to be able to soak in a bath after a long walk. Many hotels are switching to showers only and a bath can be hard to find. Feather pillows instead of flattened man-made fibre ones would also have enhanced our night's sleep. All in all though, a near perfect place to stay. Eating out is problematic if you don't book in advance however. We did manage to get into the Borrowdale which is just a walk away but it was very poor and expensive for the standard. We tried unsuccessfully to get into both the Borrowdale Gates (Grange) and the Scafell (Rossthwaite) but ended up driving to Threlkeld to the Horse & Farrier. It's a fair drive but the food is very good. It has won various awards so it was worth the drive.

I went with my wife and a couple of friends. The manager and staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy, and the location was excellent to explore the surroundings. Really nice English breakfast

Just got back from a 2 night stay, during Bank Holiday weekend.

Booked a basic double room, only £65 per night. Small room but everything you need, tea/coffee/toiletries etc. No TV in the room we had (we were told this on booking), 2 lounges for guests both with TV’s.

Really nice welcome from the owner, room clean and tidy, fantastic location right in the heart of Borrowdale, great walking right from the door. There are several pubs/hotels with restaurants within a few minutes walk.

Breakfast was good, nice selection of cereal/fresh fruit/yoghurt etc and full English cooked to order. Porridge and kippers available (need to request the night before). Only thing we would have changed is that there were no beans with the cooked breakfast, but in fairness maybe we should have asked.

Come here, dump the car and put on your walking boots (and waterproofs!) you will love it.

You know when you arrive somewhere and you think...... this is just perfect !
Green Bank ticks all the boxes because it really is such a special place. Janet is so friendly ,helpful and keen to make one's stay as enjoyable as possible. She has a huge knowledge of the local area sharing information on where to eat locally and ideas/tips for walks and getting the most out of one's stay.
The visitors book says it all with their glowing comments and folk returning time and time again
