“Felt so Welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2010

We found this guesthouse quite by accident while booking last minute. It was chosen primarily because we could book online. How pleased we are that this happened. We have been to Keswick many times but this was the first time for our friends. We could not have chosen a nicer place to stay. Tina and Bernie are the nicest people I have met in this business. Very welcoming, warm and friendly, without being over the top. We were meeting a large group of friends in Keswick to celebrate a 50th birthday and we raved about where we were staying to them; highly recommending the Cartwheel to all. The breakfast was delicious and plenty of variety too. The rooms were modern and immaculately clean. We all loved the cake each tea time when we returned which made the whole experience even more homely. The location of the Cartwheel could not be better either; minutes from the town centre. Tina and Bernie are lovely people and we look forward to staying again with them. Perhaps we might try one of the walks next time Tina, so long as it is a gentle one eh!! As you probably noticed, and we agree, we have the get up but perhaps not the stamina - there's time yet though .

I actually recommende this b & b to my friend at work and she has just been and given the the Cartwheel a review on TA. I am actually a tad late writing this review, apolgies! We take a trip up to the Lakes once or twice a year and have been all over but have a fondness for Keswick as we like to go the Theatre by the Lake, we usually stay on the outskirts but decided it would be nice to be central and within walking distance to both the Theatre and the town. The Cartwheel is a short walk into the town. Bernie and Tina are truly wonderful people, extremely caring and obviously love the job of looking after people. I try and give an honest review on TA as thats what its all about. Bernie and Tina have it so right. Its a lovely friendly homely place. Everywhere is immaculately clean. The bedrooms are beautiful with en suite and all the comforts you could wish for. Special touches such as towel sculptures and a little chocolate, to an abundance of various teas, cofees and hot chocolates and the welcome biscuits which are replaced more than adequately everyday. The breakfasts are hearty and tasty and extremely well prepared. Bernie (dont know where he finds the time) bakes delicious cakes, different one everyday! and leaves them in the dining room to help yourself. What a lovely touch and very welcome after a day out and enough to tide you over until dinner. I really cannot praise these two people enough. I will continue to recommend this lovely b & b. The only negative I can give as I mentioned to Berni and Tina was that I hadn't found this place sooner! well done and best wishes and of course writing this, i am now back on their website to book again hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

Just got back from a weekend in Keswick and stayed at the Cartwheel Guest House which was recommended by a friend. She said she had had a pleasant stay so my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a weekend away without the kids. We arrived a bit earlier than check in but Tina and Bernie gladly took our bags in and put them in the room when it was ready while we went off into town to do some shopping and a bit of walking. They recommended some places to eat and said they would talk us through a walk for the next day. The pub that they recommended for the Friday night was great - the food was spot on and there was plenty of if. At breakfast the next morning Tina talked us through a walk, lent us a guidebook and off we went having polished off a delicious full english breakfast which was cooked by Bernie. Tina even booked us a table at a restaurant for that night too. When we got back from our walk in the dining room there was a big slice of coconut cake which was freshly made by Bernie (time permitting) - just what was needed to keep us going until tea! I haven't got anything bad to say about our stay; the room was spotless, the bed was so comfortable and the breakfast was delicious and just what was needed to set you up for the day. Both Tina and Bernie are such nice people, very hospitable and friendly and they couldn't do enough for their guests. The Guest House is about 3 minutes walk (if that) from the town. There are plenty of pubs/places to eat all within walking distance - we parked the car on the Friday and didn't go near it until Sunday when we left. I would recommend the Cartwheel Guest House and are planning to go back for another weekend without the kids soon.

Just a short note to say how much we enjoyed our brief stay at The Cartwheel, good comfortable accommodation and an excellent breakfast, that slice of chocolate cake when we arrived just hit the spot ! – I look forward to returning with my family for a break, and will recommend you to others

I returned to the Cartwheel again for another perfect break. A hearty breakfast sets you up for the days waking on the nearby fells, with help and advice from Tina and Bernie. With sub-zero temperatures, it was a relief to return to a the warm, comfortable rooms. This is Keswick's hidden gem, I urge you all to book now!

Stayed here because of the rave reviews and close location to Keswick centre. Unfortunately we found that there was a lot of noise as people rolled home at 12, 1.30, 2 and even 3 in the morning. It may well be close to town but seems to be a thoroughfare for the rest of Keswick. Also parking was a nightmare. Looking back at the reviews a lot of them are single posts and seem to always name the owners - could these be spurious reviews (by the owners no less?)
The room was clean enough, the owners friendly and breakfast was fine. But due to noise and limited parking I'm afraid that we won't be back here next time we visit Keswick.

We are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your stay with us in the summer. Unfortunately, Keswick ( Like most Uk towns these days) is not immune from the noise of late night revellers returning from nights out. We are sure that the Cartwheel is not the only accommodation specificaly affecrted during the summer months.
With regards to parking. Again this is fair comment for the majority of GuestHouses in the area, as it does become exceptionally busy at peak times, but to date we have never had a guest totally unable to park and remember, it is un-restricted and free a rare thing these days.
Now to the issue raised doubting the integrity of the reviews on our site. We should like to assure all guests, past, present and hopefully future..that at no time have we, or will we enter reviews personally. It is not in our interest to give a false impression, as this would ultimately lead to dissapointment and a penalty from Tripadvisor directly. Reviews to be of use to guests or to us, must remain un-biased.
