“Fantastic - not a single bad word to say!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2009

From the moment we arrived at the Cartwheel, we were made to feel at home as a result of Tina and Bernie's warm hospitality! (hostess' with the mostess!!) We stayed in room 1, which having been recently refurbished even smelt brand new! The room was modern and spotlessly clean (not what I would dread as in some guest houses - pink and floral!!). Little touches from the cotton buds and biccies in the room to the homemade cake in the afternoon all added to our 'perfect' stay in this guest house and I haven't even mentioned brekkie yet! .. Brekkie was the best EVER , fruit juice, cereal and fresh fruit to help yourself to, followed by a full english (cooked to perfection) or any variation there on, served at your table, along with tea and fresh coffee! Keswick is beautiful and Tina+Bernie's Cartwheel guest house, a 'little gem'! Hope to go back there soon.

This was our second trip to the Cartwheel and we were not disappointed.
The rooms are exceptionally clean, well decorated and comfortable.
The breakfast choice is amazing and all fresh produce cooked to perfection.
Complimentary homemade cake awaits in the dining room on your return from a hard days walking.
Less than 5 minutes from the Town Centre and 10 minutes from Derwent Water
It is the finishing touches and the warmth of the welcome that make this guesthouse number one in our choice

Stayed here twice over the summer, my first trip wasn't even over when I re-booked for a second one, that's how impressice The Cartwheel is. Tina & Bernie are wonderful hosts, genuinely friendly and interested in you, but not to the point of being overbearing.

You'll get a well-presented spotlessly-clean room with all the usual amenities like tea & coffee, digital freeview TV, and both times we had an en-suite shower room (on the small side but there's no other way of fitting it into rooms like these) and a lovely comfy bed.

Breakfast every morning was great, and cooked to order. And after a day out fell-walking you come back to freshly baked cakes and other goodies for free in the dining room. A lovely touch.

Parking is on-street and is first-come first-served, but this is no different from most guest houses in Keswick. What is different about The Cartwheel is its location (I think its closer to the town centre than any other guest house) and, as I've said before but it needs repeating, the warm and friendly feeling you get throughout from the owners.

We stayed at the Cartwheel for three nights in late September. Tina and Bernie are two of the best hosts we've ever had at a b & b. They are warm, friendly and willing to please. The b & b itself is extremely clean. Our room had a flat screen tv and wifi. As another reviewer noted Bernie's coconut cake is absolutely delicious. Every afternoon he leaves one of his baked items in the dining room for guests to help themselves. He is a baker extraordinaire. The Cartwheel is located very close to town (about 2 minutes by foot) and two blocks from a laundromat. There is plenty of street parking within a couple of blocks. We found a space right in front of the b & b. The breakfast was fine. My husband thought the sausages were exceptional. One morning I had the vegetarian full English which was okay. The scrambled egg and salmon was good. The bedroom was on the small side but was still comfortable for the two of us. Our bathroom was en-suite and it was quite small (the sink is located in the bedroom). If you need a larger bathroom I would suggest getting one of the rooms that are not en-suite as the shared bathroom was much larger. We highly recommend the Cartwheel as it is very inviting. You will not find better hosts. Ever. Hopefully we will return to Keswick and when we do we will return to the Cartwheel.

Has a great 2 night stay at the Cartwheel while we walked up Scafell Pike. We had a very warm welcome from Tina and Bernie and they got our room ready early for ue to check in. The cooked breakfast is fantastic and home made cakes are put in the dining room in the afternoon, it makes for a very nice treat after a days walking.
See you when it snows for Skiddaw, lol.

Stayed last week for 7 nights. This was our first visit to Keswick and we booked the Cartwheel because of the excellent reviews - we were not disappointed!
The guesthouse is situated around the corner from the lovely town and only a few minutes walk from Derwentwater, a beautiful lake surrounded by breathtaking scenery.
The warm friendly welcome, bright and comfortable room, amazing breakfasts and wonderful afternoon cakes made our holiday one of the best. Tina and Bernie are very enthusiastic and knowledgable about the local area.
We had some brilliant walks, even the weather was glorious!
We will be back......

Tina and Bernie are fantastic hosts, they have a wonderful home, we loved every minute of staying here, a fantastic breakfast on a morning sent us on our way. The rooms are exceptionally clean and our king size bed was wonderful. I would highly recommend The Cartwheel it is a super place we will be returning later on in the year, Bernie s coconut cake is to die for with a nice cup of tea. Thank you so much for making our stay very happy. xx
