“Not changed..still awful.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

We stopped calling at this pub after some terrible experiences about 5 years ago. However, we thought we would give it another chance a short time ago..and how we regretted it. The ale i chose was undrinkable and a young barmaid asked me if i was used to drinking ale as it tasted exactly as it should do in her opinion. I am an ale drinker, as were my friends who also complained. No offer of another type or any refund was made so instead of staying a while longer and possibly eating there, we went elsewhere where the ale and service was much better.
Sadly, this is a typical experience in certain pubs in Keswick. The town is always busy so customer service and the quality of food and beer doesn´t seem to matter as there have always been new people visiting the town.

“Disgusting - Never Again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

Went in at 2.30pm looking for somewhere to eat that evening. When ordering 2 drinks, the woman behind the bar who hadn't spoken any type of greeting, said bluntly "we close at 3". No problem as we were only there for one drink. Sitting in the room at the front of the pub we perused the sticky menu cards and overall dirty appearance of the room. After we both took a trip to the toilets we decided to leave immediately. Disgusting, dirty, smelly toilets, over-flowing sanitary bins, sticky floors, carpets and tables. Never again. Wish we had read the other reviews before visiting this establishment.

“No veg or salad - and a sticky carpet!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2012

We stopped in for tea having seen the board advertising burger & chips with salad and imagining a lovely, homemade burger with fresh salad. We were very disappointed to be told there was no salad or veg available that day as the chef had forgotten to order it - then even more disappointed when we got the £9 burger which really was just a burger (that tasted mainly of onion) in a bun with chips - no attempt to make it more interesting with relish or anything. Whilst eating we saw another couple get a pie and chips (second choice as his first pie choice wasn't available) and a steak (which she was saying was overcooked) which came with onion rings and chips - no veg for them either; and another couple order desserts but their first choice wasn't available. Then I made my way across the sticky carpet to the ladies toilet only to nearly trip up on the uneven/wobbly flooring. With so many other choices to eat at in Keswick we won't be visiting this one again.

“Ugh!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2012

Had the misfortune to opt for this pub for a bar lunch at the weekend. Woefully poor service-the barman was struggling to serve drinks, clear tables as well as running back and forth to the kitchen for food.
The food-and it was only soup and sandwiches- was awful. Watery lentil and bacon soup was clearly packet made and thin watery ham in the sandwiches. Very obviously microwave food being delivered to others.
The 'cook' came through after we said the soup was inedible and he was clearly unhappy with us as he made it quite obvious by his nasty stares.
Avoid-there are lots of quality eateries in Keswick to choose from.
