“Would definitely recommend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

We spent an enjoyable couple of days at The Grange in March 2013.

Our room (11) was very comfortable, clean and well presented, though the bathroom could have done with a proper radiator, rather than just a heated towel rail and a fan heater on the wall. Perhaps we were unfortunate, as the two days we spent in Keswick were among the coldest we can remember in the Lakes (certainly for March), and a warm bathroom under such circumstances is a must.

Nevertheless, the bedroom was quite cosy, and there is no denying the warmth of the reception from our hosts. There was homemade cake in the lobby each afternoon which was a nice touch, and a separate room showing contemporary works of art.

The real star for us though was the breakfast each morning. We each had a delicious full English one morning and eggs Benedict and smoked salmon and eggs respectively the next, all freshly cooked to order. There were cereals and fresh fruit with juices etc to start of course, but also porridge with banana and brown sugar too, which was great, and the service was prompt and friendly.

Perhaps we'd try one of the other rooms next time, maybe in summertime, as it would be lovely to sit on the terrace out front as the sun went down. We would certainly recommend The Grange, and would definitely return – it would be worth it for the breakfast alone!

This lovely B&B made our work trip feel like a holiday! We had a lot of kit in the car so it was nice to be able to park easily right outside. The house is elegant in style and decor. Our attic room was spacious, warm and cosy and the bed really comfortable. I liked having real milk for the tea in our room, and homemade cake too. Breakfast was excellent with mountains of fresh fruit and delicious eggs benedict, whilst enjoying the beautiful view of snow-clad fells.
We had a '3 nights for the price of 2' offer which was excellent value and would definitely stay again. Could walk down to the shores of Derwent Water in 15 mins.

Room Tip: Our attic room had plenty of space and felt quiet and private. Bathroom had bath and shower. Rooms...

Here's another positive review of The Grange. Having been heavily influenced by the previous reviews on this B n B we booked a weekend and found everything that had been previously reported upon to be true. The views from the room (No8) were tremendous. Similarly from the breakfast room. Breakfast was an unhurried affair and plentiful. The staff were polite and helpful.
We ate at the Italian, Lucas, on the Friday evening and at The Pheasant at Bassenthwaite on the Saturday. Both were extremely busy and I would recommend booking a table at both. The hill from The Grange into town is a steep one. It's the Lakes! Despite us having good weather it dropped cold in the evening so we opted for a taxi ride to Lucas, £3 each way. £15 each way to Bassenthwaite. Would we return. Oh yes.

Room Tip: Our room No8 was on the second floor. The ceiling of the room is invasive as it comes to the front o...

Thank you very much for your review - we are pleased you enjoyed it. We do enjoy super views and today its looking great with snow on the tops and clear blue skies! Its good to mention about pre-booking the restaurants - you were here in March and they were busy so anyone planning to come later in the year pre-book - The best places do get full!

We stayed here for three nights a little while ago and had a wonderful short break. The room was everything you would expect from a top flight establishment, and the breakfasts were just perfect. The view from our room was spectacular, and the town is but a short walk - the only 'downside' (pun intended!) being that it is an all uphill walk on the way back! The best recommendation we can ever give is whether we would stay there again, and in this case the answer is a resounding YES!

Room Tip: The further up the room, the better the view!

We had a lovely couple of nights at the Grange when we came up for the Keswick Film Festival. The room we had was very comfortable. Shower was powerful. Breakfasts were delicious and very generous. Homemade marmalade was added bonus. We would recommend it.

We decided to stay at The Grange for three nights last week - this has been one of the best short breaks, if not the best, we have ever had in England (or anywhere else for that matter).

The welcome from Mark on arrival was superb, we quickly realised that we had made the right choice staying here.

The room (3) was perfect, with a fabulous view of Catbells thrown in - lovely to wake up to in the morning and see the sunset at night. Really comfortable bed, spotlessly clean room and bathroom (shower) comfortable chairs, hospitality tray (plus a tray of cakes in the main hallway to graze from).... 10 minute walk into town, a little longer (but not much longer) back up again although there are plenty of taxis to choose from if needed. Being out of town a little means that it is extremely peaceful and quiet. Plus a good base to start many local walks from. The Grange is dead easy to find, and off road car parking was perfect with no cars blocked in as is the case with many places these days.

The breakfasts were simply divine; the quality of the bacon, sausage, egg and black pudding is hard to beat. Try the homemade orange and apricot marmalade - delicious.

Sally and Mark are the perfect hosts, with the same enthusiasm very evident in members of staff we met over breakfast.

We will be back, and look forward to enjoying adrink or two on the terrace .
