“Our stay at the Grange Country House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

We had a lovely couple of nights at the Grange when we came up for the Keswick Film Festival. The room we had was very comfortable. Shower was powerful. Breakfasts were delicious and very generous. Homemade marmalade was added bonus. We would recommend it.

We decided to stay at The Grange for three nights last week - this has been one of the best short breaks, if not the best, we have ever had in England (or anywhere else for that matter).

The welcome from Mark on arrival was superb, we quickly realised that we had made the right choice staying here.

The room (3) was perfect, with a fabulous view of Catbells thrown in - lovely to wake up to in the morning and see the sunset at night. Really comfortable bed, spotlessly clean room and bathroom (shower) comfortable chairs, hospitality tray (plus a tray of cakes in the main hallway to graze from).... 10 minute walk into town, a little longer (but not much longer) back up again although there are plenty of taxis to choose from if needed. Being out of town a little means that it is extremely peaceful and quiet. Plus a good base to start many local walks from. The Grange is dead easy to find, and off road car parking was perfect with no cars blocked in as is the case with many places these days.

The breakfasts were simply divine; the quality of the bacon, sausage, egg and black pudding is hard to beat. Try the homemade orange and apricot marmalade - delicious.

Sally and Mark are the perfect hosts, with the same enthusiasm very evident in members of staff we met over breakfast.

We will be back, and look forward to enjoying adrink or two on the terrace .

The grange is an amazing building, with beautiful interior and rooms, great facilities and more than a warm welcome. Service was outstanding, we couldn't have asked for more, it was already offered. The breakfast certainly hits the spot if you like your food, it was of very high quality and more than you could ever finish. As a result, we had a wonderful few days, and would certainly return without doubt, it is set in a perfect location and Sally and Mark made the stay extremely pleasant. If i was picky and i mean really picky, the water pressure seemed low making the shower trickle slightly, however easily resolved by a bath.

Room Tip: choose a room with a bath rather than a shower, and if you want extra privacy room 11 is down a litt...

Wow, where do I start, this guest house was amazing, beautifully decorated, fantastic staff and great facilities. Not to mention the idealic location. We chose this house after a trip advisor search and reviewing other people's comments, we were to spend four days in the Lake District, walking and sight seeing.

We stayed in room 10, tucked neatly in the attack of the house, it was a large room with a wonderful on-suite bathroom, warm and cosy, the room had a comfy bed, dressing table, wardrobe and all the little extras like hair dryer, tea making facilities and tv. Unlike a regular guest house we did not hear other guests coming and going, this was lovely.

Breakfast every morning was a choice of buffet options on the side as well as cooked breakfasts ranging from full Cumbrian, salmon and scrambled eggs and porridge. It was served with tea, coffee, hot water for fruit teas, range of juices, everything you cold need was available.

The staff were always attentive but not overly, we instantly felt welcome and at home and if we had needed to ask for anything we felt it wouldn't have been a problem. We were lucky enough to get a mini tour at the end of our stay and both agreed all the rooms we saw were elegant, homely and welcoming.

There was plenty of parking and downstairs rooms to relax in, a lounge and drawing room with puzzles and games.

The price for the rooms was justified, we did not think that it was expensive for the quality of stay.
We would recommend this house to anyone, a comfortable and homely stay.

We stayed here with our 4 month old baby, have to say that we had a wonderful break. The location was great alongside the views which were outstanding. We were Room 1, it was clean and suitable with our baby, hope she was not too noisy!
Sally and Mark were very welcoming and ensured our stay was pleasant during the 3 days we were there. Breakfast was nice and there was a variety including a cooked breakfast each morning. The only thing I would say, which I hope is a positive criticism is that couch in the room was a little too small for 2 people to relax on if watching tv.

Other than that we felt it was a lovely place to stay and we would highly recommend this to others.

Thankyou for your hospitality!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Grange, and will certainly book for our next trip to the Lake District. The house and our room was extremely comfortable and warm, the room spotless and stylish, and we slept so well. Breakfast in the breakfast room was a delight: the food was fabulous, the views excellent, and the service outstanding. There is off-road parking at The Grange which meant we could quite happily leave the car and walk into Keswick or to Derwent Water.
We should like to thank the staff for their hospitality and for making our stay so enjoyable.
