“Good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

We spent one night here on a DB&B deal. the food was definitely worth 5 stars and was real value for money, even though the breakfast was a serve yourself buffet, the food was still fresh & tasty.
the evening meal was really excellent with great choices, although we just followed the chef's recommendations with Scallops & Steak, first class.
The room was very basic and small so it drops a star for that.

We were a party of six who stayed for three wonderful nights earlier this Month. It was my first trip to the Lakes although my friends have stayed at the Keswick Country House Hotel on a previous occasion, We arrived early and the rooms were not available to check into. This was not a problem as we could still register, park up the car and enjoy tea and scones in a very relaxing bar area. The hotel has a lovely homely ambience. Subtle easy listening background music was playing and generally there was just a lovely feel to the place. We had standard bedrooms on the third floor. The rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Granted they had limited views but how long do you tend to spend in the bedroom when on holiday. Dinner was served in a beautiful restaurant with high ceilings and amazing views over well kept gardens. The food was absolutely amazing. We dine out frequently and this was some of the best food I have ever eaten. The main credits go to the staff. I have never come across such an amazing team of staff anywhere. The lady manager was hands on throughout the duration of our stay and a delight to chat to. The girls on reception, each and everyone of them friendly and helpful. All of the restaurant staff without exception, and the lovely bar staff. The service this hotel offered was just brilliant and what a bargain it was too. We will certainly be back and will recommend to our friends. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: We had standard rooms on the 3rd floor which were great

A member of a largish group on a walking week end. Room was spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet. View was not great but then how long do you actually stay in the room? There was a good sized comfortable lounge with bar as well other nooks and crannys - my favourite was the snooker room looking out on to the platform with the walkers and cyclists looking back. Staff were friendly and efficient. The dinner and breakfasts were excellent - good choice, well cooked and served efficiently for such a large group. Dont waste time and money in Keswick - I have found the food and service very hit and miss there in the past. The special offers that the Hotel occasional advertise are very good value for money. No hesitation in either returning or recommending.

Just returned from our second visit this year and everything is still of the same high standard. This time we had a huge room in the Station wing which was very quiet and relaxing. All the staff are wonderful and very professional at their various roles. The food is very varied and of good quality. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone.

Recently spent two days and nights at this wonderfully located Hotel, opted for a King Delux Room and accommodated in Room 105, a lovely good sized room which has part views of the car park and part of the gardens. Arrived on a very hot sunny day (Yes the Lakes do get sun also!) the problem with this however was that the room faced directly into the sun and when we entered it, we thought we had gone into a sauna, the room was roasting hot and the only way you could cool it down was to close ALL the curtains as their is NO Air-conditioning installed, had to request an electric fan. Unfortunately when the fan was brought up, it was only a small office desk one and didn't really do the job.
This aside the evening meal in the restaurant was top quality and is highly recommended to anyone who stays or visits, the service is excellent and staff can not do enough to help. Breakfast is also very good and you can request additional food items, if required at a small cost. The Hotel has wonderful gardens and is only a 10 minute walk from Keswick town centre. I personally would have given this Hotel a higher rating had it not been for the temperature and discomfort of the room!

Room Tip: Avoid room 105 if it is a sunny hot day.

This is part of the 'Choice Hotels' chain - really excellent! The Patterdale Hotel is also part of the same chain and is very good but the Country House Hotel was unbeatable and excellent value for money. The staff were lovely both at Reception and the waiting staff, the food was FIVE STARS! I wanted to take the Chef home with me. Quite a creaky old hotel with lovely gardens. The only slight downside was the tap water was very chlorinated.

Room Tip: Varying types of rooms at varying prices
