“Rubbish service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

We ate here one night with our 3 children as kids menu was advertised although I think they would prefer not to have children in there! Service was awful, only offered 1 drink for the entire meal, bar waiter took dessert order and got it wrong twice couldn't be bothered the second time to correct as by then we just wanted to leave. Food was nice but won't be returning, this has also put us off staying here which we were looking at for just myself and husband.

“potential to be good, but not even coming close.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Where to start?
We were attracted to restaurant by the exterior and the menu. Once we got inside things started to deteriorate. For a start the layout wasn't good, tables too close together and generally feeling cramped.
Next we noticed there were only two very stressed waiters hurriedly dashing around.

The first food problem was that they had run out of the still-advertised Sunday roasts which we only found out by asking about it, secondly on ordering a meal that contained chips, we were informed that they had run out which is forgivable until you realise that five out of six main courses on their 2 for £13.95 or 3 for £14.95 menus contain chips (oh and no, a jacket potato does not make up for this). Why we weren't informed of these things on arrival, we don't know. After ordering (and having to ask what the soup of the day was without being told) we had to ask to have our menus taken off the table.

Eventually we can say that the main course was very nice and reasonably sized.

When it came to dessert we ordered two sticky toffee puddings and nothing was said. When it arrived the waitress informed us that they had ran out of vanilla ice cream and as she placed them in front of us said they had replaced it for chocolate ice cream.

CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM WITH STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING, doesn't that say it all?

The table next to us complained about the cooking of their steaks and whether right or wrong about the steaks, were spoken to quite rudely by the manager.

Overall, understaffed waiter-wise which lead to simple mistakes, mainly communication, poor judgement upon food quantities needed for a bank holiday weekend leading to the running out of items, and poor service.

A shame considering some of the food is very nice but too many problems to forgive. Won't be returning.

Potential, but seriously failing to deliver.

“Average food, poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

Sat down at 6.30pm (as this was the only time they had available). At this point it wasn't too busy and the waitess asked what we wanted for drinks. After asking for a jug of water first she promptly returned with the order. We placed our meal order and before we had a chance to ask for wine the waitress left to attend another table (She was the only waitress). Our meal arrived and once again we failed in our attempt to order wine. The meal itself was hot and rather average. The chips (frozen variety) were served as a side to the main dish and were warm at best. Overall a disappointing evening at a restaurant we shall not return to. Service could be more attentive.

“Disappointing food and really poor service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

The restaurant looks good and on that basis we'd made reservations for a Saturday night. Unfortunately the decor was about the only good thing. The portions are tiny - the bruschetta as a starter was essentially three canape style, very thin bits of bread with a teaspoon of chopped tomatoes on each and the arrabiata pasta as a main course looked, tasted and was about the size of a low budget microwave meal. We brought this to the waiter's attention who offered us free desserts and coffees which we had, mainly because we were still so hungry! His gesture of good will was slightly marred by the fact he then reminded us that he had done this about five times...twice when he brought the desserts and three times when he brought the bill. His line was "I've given you free sweets and coffees; I can't be farirer than that" To be honest I'd rather just have had decent food for the first two courses.

Even if the food had been ok, the service would still have let this place down. At every course I had to sit and wait with my food going cold whilst the rest of the order arrived and this seemed to take forever! I don't know if the kitchen was a mile from the restaurant or in the next town but it seemed an unreasonably long wait, with no explanation or apology.

The final straw was when, ahead of the main courses arriving, the waiter dumped a tray full of napkins, knives and forks on our table for us to set out our own cutlery!

“Laughably Bad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013 via mobile

Our party of 12 (4 children) had a dinner reservation on the eve of the Keswick Triathlon of which 5 were competing. As a result there was a requirement for good food and plenty of it. My £4+ Bruschetta starter was made up of half a plate if salad and three of the smallest pieces of toasted bread I have seen - each could be eaten whole without issue and would have been classed as small for canapés. We were given a tray of cutlery and invited to distribute it between us in preparation for our mains. My lasagna wasn't advertised as home-made because it certainly wasn't, whilst the addition of a packet pasta-sauce around it failed to add any positives. As my experience was backed-up by others in our party a 'quiet word' was had. The result was a near theatrical response to the whole restaurant offering us free dessert or coffee. A nice gesture as an apology but not enough to compensate for the failings. On a positive the Jennings beer was good and the frequent top-ups of water jugs. Sorry!
