“Excellent value and interesting programme”

We saw both An Inspector Calls and See How They Run. The first play is a serious meditation on responsibility, whilst the second is a wild farce with many people dressed up as vicars jumping over sofas. The theatre has a good cafe and everybody is very welcoming and friendly.

“A Play, that Tripadvisor will not allow one to name cancelled but and Inspector called.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

The Theatre by the Lake is one of the best theatres in England and in the most spectacular of settings. We saw an excellent production of 'She Stoops To Conquer', a fun play with a superb set and lighting. We were booked to see the Studio production of 'Tis a Pity She's a ....(Tripadvisor will not allow us to correctly name this Play)' by Oliver Goldsmith but sadly one of the actors had been taken into hospital at 5 pm that day and the performance was cancelled. Fortunately we were able to obtain the last two seats in the main House to see 'An Inspector Calls'. This is a play we had seen many times before and had not intended to see it again. If we had not seen this production, by a twist of fate, as it were, we would have missed an outstanding experience. This production of this Play was stunningly and starkly clear with a set that enhanced but did not overpower the Play. All the characters were entirely believable. It is a real 'Play for Today'. This was the best production of this Play that I have seen, to date.

“An inspector calls!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

We really enjoyed visiting this lovely theatre again. It is good to see a theatre at the heart of a community and we particularly liked to see the wide range of ages of theatre goers. The only slight disappointment was the time it took to queue to pre-order interval drinks but we understand we should have done that at the bar upstairs rather than downstairs. We try to visit the theatre when we visit the Lakes and have always enjoyed each production.

“an inspector calls”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

had a very enjoyable evening at the theatre, sat on seats to the side which were reasonably priced but may not suit everyone as they had low backs, nice coffee and cakes beforehand, though struggled to find a seat as it was busy before the performance. but very well organised, with very pleasant staff.
