“goulash”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

The dog and Gun is a bit small and cramped, always very busy but does a great goulash (among other dishes)!

“Best beer in Keswick”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

This pub is well known for its goulash. That's okay but it is the top place for beer in Keswick. Well kept ales and a very dog friendly place. It gets very crowded at the weekends especially Fridays.

“We'll be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

This must be one of the classic pubs of England. Where do I start? It is warm and welcoming, with wooden settles along the walls and a traditional feel. Dogs are made to feel at home with £1 treat bags available (use to bag as a poop scoop afterwards!) The food is wonderful - famous for the delicious goulash, they also serve Portuguese stew, rabbit suet pudding, mini pies and home made soup - we tried them all. Indeed, we had the soup twice in one day it was just so good. If you don't mind the nearby dogs looking longingly at you while you eat (I don't) I would highly recommend it. There is a range of local real ale and a choice of good single malt whiskys available. It is worth remembering a few points - children are only allowed in if eating a meal - it is a very busy pub and not really suitable for children anyway. Last orders is followed VERY quickly by "drinking up", so if you don't want to down your last drink, don't buy one, and lastly the pub does not serve fried food - this includes chips. Enough to discourage lots of children! With goulash this stunning, you really don't need burger and chips

Very traditional pub, like stepping back in time.

Food wholesome and comforting, very chunky soup.

Friendly service.
