“A few nice drinks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

We visited the Pack Horse whilst on our anniversary weekend in Keswick, we didn't eat there but had a few drinks. I find it a lovely traditional country pub, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was great, chatting to other patrons is something you just don't get elsewhere. The drinks were a bit pricey at over £10 for a glass of wine and a bottle of Ginger Beer, so couldn't stay there all night but great for a couple of drinks, plus I guess it's to be expected in tourist areas.

The one down side was waiting to get served, we weren't in a hurry so didn't matter a great deal but hubby was at the bar for some time. The second time we went in it was very quiet and although we got served without issue, some other people came in a little while after us and walked out as no-one was serving, I couldn't see the bar but assume there was no staff on.

This is a shame as people were leaving without trying the fab ales.

Will definitely visit again, but hoping more staff on the bar.

“Solid Pub Grub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

If you want some decent pub grub served by friendly staff in a cosy atmosphere this is the place for you.
The steak pudding was excellent and very filling and my wife said the scampi was some of the best she had ever had.
You can have a sample of 3 of the real ales they have on tap for the price of a pint to help you choose.
Do try this pub you won't be disappointed

“Good Cumbria Pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Just off the market square in Keswick and under new management this pub is certainly worth finding.
Very welcoming to those with dogs, it has a traditional bar with excellent real ales and the specials board has a good selection at reasonable prices, and also a good childrens menu.
My wife had the chicken and ham pie, and I had the homemade beefburger. The food arrived quickly with no fuss and well cooked.
We will certainly visit here again.

“Fabulous Pub, Fabulous Food, Friendly Atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We have been coming to Keswick for years but never came to this place as it didn't allow dogs, we always have our two Jack Russells tagging along behind us. We were pleasantly surprised in the summer of 2013 to see that it had changed hands and pets were welcome. We came back again for a long weekend at the beginning of March 13 and the food was fabulous, friendly staff, friendly atmosphere. The pub itself is lovely and clean. We are back again in July and this is definitely where will be heading for our evening meal.
