I have stayed at many so called dog friendly B&Bs, some of which weren't dog friendly at all, and others that were merely dog tolerant. Sue and Dave welcomed my labrador and I from the start - which was a relief because it allowed me to relax and feel that her presence wasn't a problem. They are not simply dog friendly, they are more like dog enthusiasts - and it was clear that the quality of my dog's experience at Larry's was almost as important to them as mine. They have been involved with training guide dogs for the blind, and have the dogs they have trained in the past back home when they are retired from their guiding service. In short, they love dogs!! My room was clean, warm & cosy - with a nice comfortable bed. The room had an ensuite wc with whb and shower and was in an excellent state of repair and decoration. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided in the room. I opted for the full English breakfasts throughout my stay, which were generous and tasty - setting me up well for the long days of walking in the fells. Home made breads made for lovely toast, and the home made conserves were delicious. A good choice of cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurt were also nice options on the breakfast menu. Sue and Dave were helpful with providing local knowledge, and took an interest in the Wainwright routes we'd walked. They even provided me with walking poles as I had never used them before. Sue and Dave require that canine guests are not left unattended in guest rooms, as some dogs may become agitated in a new environment with the obvious consequences (I think they've learned by experience). This was an absolutely reasonable and sensible request to my mind, and my dog was no worse off sleeping in the car whilst I enjoyed my breakfast for half an hour or so. I was able to park my car directly outside the B&B and was never worried about finding a spot. Dog or no dog, I would highly recommend this B&B, which is a short walk from the centre of Keswick.
I am quite a picky reviewer but am very happy to give credit where it's due. My thanks go to Sue, Dave (and Kyle (woof)) for a friendly and comfortable stay in the Lake District!
