“A great find in the sea of guest houses available in Keswick!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2011

Recently stayed for 4 nights for the Keswick Mountain Festival and had the best of welcomes. Very clean and only a hop and skip away from the centre of town. Perfect base for exploring the Lakes and with free on street parking, really convenient. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower always hot. Breakfasts were really tasty and with lots to choose from, always spoilt for choice. Thanks Linda and Stephen!

Thank you for the fabulous review. We're thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with us. The Mountain Festival seems to have been a successful event yet again, even though the weather was, well..... less than perfect! At least our food would set you up to get you through the day. It was lovely to meet you and of course if you're up in The Lakes again, we'd love to welcome you back.

Thank you for the recommendation; it's much appreciated. It was an absolute pleasure having you stay with us. Linda's chuffed that you mentioned the bedroom was immaculate. She's been getting jealous with all the nice comments about my breakfasts! All the best and hope you might manage to return later in the year.

Stephen & Linda were wonderful hosts and made me and my partner feel very welcome and at home. The room was lovely with a very comfortable bed and cosy. The breakfast was delicious especially the black pudding. Will be staying again in future and would definitely recommend to friend.

Great to hear that Jay and yourself enjoyed your stay with us. We try hard to make the rooms as comfortable as possible for guests, so it's nice to see that the hard work is paying off. Well done with your climb up Scaffel. Where next? We're looking forward to seeing you both again next year - if not sooner.

We just returned from a trip to the Lake District and other scenic areas of northern England, and we loved our stay at Avondale. The rooms were lovely and the breakfasts were delicious (especially the whiskey-soaked porridge), but the biggest selling points are the hosts. Linda and Stephen made us feel so welcome. They were helpful but not intrusive, and each trip they gave us turned on to be spot-on. We would stay there again in an instant.

How nice of you to say such kind things. Thank you. We're thrilled that you all enjoyed your stay with us. Yes, the malt whisky porridge is becoming quite popular. It seems to make the walks that bit more enjoyable! We hope you'll manage back again to this lovely area and visit us once more. Thanks again.

Linda & Stephen were excellent hosts making the stay a very comfortable and relaxing one. As I was a solo traveller I had a single room, which was cosy, well kept and with a very comfy bed. The town centre is a 2 minute stroll away with the start of "Latrigg" a maximum 10 minute walk thru Fitz park. From "Latrigg" you can continue on to "Skiddaw View". Two excellent walks.
The breakfast was excellent and very relaxing. I especially liked the selection of dried/fresh fruits, nuts, yoghurts, seeds, strawberries and even raspberry puree, to compliment the numerous choices of cereal. The cooked breakfast was also a treat and plentiful. You won't go hungry here.
I was fortunate to get a parking space immediately outside so there was no hassle getting bags to and from the B& B.
In summary, I have stayed at a few nice B&Bs in Keswick but this will be the first one I will consider next time I go.

Many thanks for taking the time to write about us. It looks like you had a great time even though your stay was short. You're absolutely right about the walks. There's so much to do and it's all so close at hand. Guests that come here for the first time can't get over it. We're delighted that you enjoyed the breakfast, especially the alternatives to the traditional cooked breakfast. We look forward to seeing you again when you next visit Keswick.

We had a delightful 2-night stay at Avondale, which is ideally located in a quite street in Keswick town centre. Linda and Stephen were a lovely couple. They were most welcoming, friendly and helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The room was spotless, modern and well-appointed. Breakfast was superb with a wide choice. We chose the full English with the Stornoway black pudding, which was even better than the famous black pudding of our home town - Bury.
We have no hesitation in recommending Avondale to others. We''ll certainly be going again.

Thanks for your lovely review and kind words about ourselves. Well I suppose that's it. It's now in print on the internet. There's no going back. It's true; guests from Bury enjoy Stornoway black pudding more than Bury black pudding. This could be the start of a revolution! It was a pleasure having you stay with us, we're so happy you enjoyed it and we hope to see you again soon.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights at the Avondale guest house. We were greeted by both Linda and Stephen who were very friendly and gave us lots of local advice on what to do and places to eat (they even phoned and booked us a table at the pub they recommended). The location is pretty much a minute walk to the main street in Keswick, it was quite nice to be on a quiet street. Parking is on street but we didn't have any problems finding a space. The bed was comfortable and our room serviced daily. Last but by no means least is the fab breakfasts. There is a really good selection of dried/fresh fruits, nuts, yoghurts, seeds etc. The full cooked breakfast though is a must have, thick bacon, and stornoway black pudding (I'm a convert from not really being that bothered about black pudding to loving this stuff). Best breakfast in the Lakes!! Thank you Linda and Stephen.

Room Tip: Have the cooked breakfast!!!!

Thank you for the lovely review. We're always more than happy to pass on our local knowledge to our guests. It's just part of helping you get the most from your visit. We're especially happy that you thought the bed was comfortable. We'd just had new mattresses delivered. Choosing them was difficult. We didn't want them to be too soft, nor did we want them too hard. Looks like we got it just right! Good to see the breakfast was a hit with you both. That's a bit of an accolade you've given us. Yet again we have a convert to the delights of Stornoway black pudding. Hope to see you again.
