“Greatest Example of a B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

Crosthwaite house is a great example of a B&B with its friendly hosts Sam and Tirie making a lovely local cooked breakfast and also specials which changed everyday. The homemade cakes in the hall are delicious and the rooms are a good size with shortbread on the bed. Sam and Tirie are always smiling and are on hand to give helpful directions to local restaurants and walks to make your stay even better. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

I would recommend if you're driving from Scotland then make sure you set your SatNav to go via Kendal as ours seemed to pick very narrow farm roads with no passing places.

Thanks so much for leaving us such a lovely review. It was a pleasure to have you here at Crosthwaite House. Thanks also for leaving the tip about the SatNav - we try to advise guests to follow the directions on our website (to Jnc 26 on the M6), as SatNav does have a tendency to send people the "direct" route down Broom Lane, which is very narrow! We're really glad you enjoyed your stay, hope to see you again, best wishes Sam and Tiree xx

Can't fault this lovely Georgian B&B. Sam and Tirie seems to have thought of everything, even old towels for doggie guests. The breakfasts were delicious, the rooms were lovely, lots of homely and stylish touches everywhere, from penguin classics scattered around to fresh flowers in dainty teacups in the bedrooms and breakfast. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Finding a B&B to beat this will be a tall order!

Tucked away in the peaceful, village of Crosthwaite, you'll find beautiful Crosthwaite House. I went there to have a peaceful weekend at the end of the summer, and that's exactly what I had. The three of us (me, my partner and our dog) could not have had a more perfect weekend.
Our welcome was warm and came after prompt, friendly correspondence about booking, recommendations, etc.

We were greeted at the door with big smiles by Sam and Tiree, and shown around; our room was so cosy, with home-made shortbread on our bed and our own entrance to the garden (our dog loved it!) The atmosphere was so warm and relaxed, with our hosts always on hand to offer advice about the area, and home-baked treats. They even made sure we took one of their torches with us when we ventured to the nearby pub for dinner.

What really stood out for me, as well as the friendliness of our hosts and all the thoughtful touches, was the food. The breakfasts were fantastic - full cooked Cumbrian (with Aga-fried egg), French toast, frittata, freshly-squeezed orange juice, and as much top quality coffee and toast as we could consume. To add to that, we ordered a packed lunch for our walk one day - it was delicious - and also enjoyed sampling the home-made treats on the hallway table.

Nothing was too much trouble - Sam and Tiree did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable, even printing out directions for our walk, and going that extra mile to ensure that we had a wonderful holiday. They've succeeded in creating the perfect B&B, in a stunning, unspoilt location. I could not recommend Crosthwaite House more highly.

Room Tip: Make sure you let your hosts know if you're bringing your dog, so you get your own entrance to t...

This B & B should be classified as a national treasure. Amazing views, wonderful hosts, best breakfasts we've had in a B & B and all surrounded by some of the UK's most stunning countryside. Rooms were comfortable and very practical in design - we were in the Blue Violet room and loved waking up to the views of rolling green fields and hills across the Lyth Valley. We stayed for 5 nights and left very reluctantly having felt like we had stayed with friends who we would miss as well as their delicious little sweet treats left temptingly on the hall table. Thank you Sam and Tiree.

This house sits facing some breathtaking scenery! We only stayed 1 night due to it being booked but the owners were VERY helpful in helping us find another location. I also accidentally left a jacket there and they made sure to call and let me know. Couldn't ask for better people or better scenery!

Absolutely wonderful B&B. Comfortable beds, spacious rooms, amazing welcome, wonderful recommendations, delicious food and to top it all off accessible without being in the mix of the tourist trade. Gem of a place that I will highly recommend to anyone heading to the Lake District who is comfortable driving.
