“Worth the trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Popped in en-route to the Lakes. Miserable weather, so not able to fully enjoy the gardens. House (castle) and associated history interesting enough. Good tea room with attentive and efficient staff. Standard NT property and associated facilities.

“Glad we went”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We live reasonably close to Sizergh but have never taken the trouble to visit - perhaps we're too close? However we visited a couple of weeks ago and passed a lovely afternoon. True, the sun was shining, the autumn colours were magnificent, which helped, but we enjoyed our brief time there. We will definitely go again, if only for a wander around the pleasant gardens. We were impressed with the Castle itself too.
The one negative (and this is nit-picking) is that the cafe staff seemed to be rather disorganised, but we still got our (really good) cup of tea and biscuits.

“Lovely garden”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

Didnt find the castle that interesting but the gardens were nice.We were on our way to Scotland so a good stop off.We stayed couple of hours as it was raining but maybe 4 hours max if it was dry.Not a big garden but well laid out and good to stroll round.

“Worth a visit and try to join private tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

A very interesting NT property which is well worth a visit. We were fortunate enough to be able to join a small private tour (c. 45 minutes) which gave an interesting overview of the history of the castle and also of the families who have lived there. A couple of the rooms, including the main bedroom are stunning. The rock garden is super though we only spent a short time in the rest of the gardens as it was pouring with rain. Cafe was very busy - with a long queue so we passed on coffee as we were under time pressure. Seating available outside and a shop.

The National Trust.when we were we went about 4 times in total. The gardens are beautiful and the house is interesting within a very narrow definition .
