“Very nice cosey pub with great range of beers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Went for a meal and a few drinks here after seeing it in the Camra Good Beer Guide. Great selection of beers (i tried about 4 of them), all brewed on site. Had a nice meal and pudding, both of which were very hearty and well presented. Extremely friendly bar-staff, i just wish it was my local pub!

“Lovely food and great beer/ales too!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

We went here for a bite to eat and a beer one evening.

The choice of beers and real ales (up to 16, I think) was excellent.

The menu had a good wide choice to choose from. The food is very fresh, well prepared, tasty and a good portion size.

The service was very friendly. The pub is dog friendly too!

We both thoroughly enjoyed our evening here and would return.

“Excellent real ale pub with own brewery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Have stayed here quite a number of times over the years but never written a review about it before. We can't really understand why not unless it's to keep it a secret for as long as possible to avoid it becoming so popular that we can't book it. It's excellent, very popular with walkers and very convenient for touring around particularly in the southern lakes area. The pub is very welcoming and has an excellent large selection of real ales including there own from the onsite brewery. Their own brews get our vote although they also serve other local and national real ales. Their own brews all have doggie names like Colley Wobbles, Wruff Night, Dogth Vader etc., which also helps explain that the pub is very dog friendly, water and biscuits in the dog bar. The pub has 2 bars and 8 rooms, dogs can go in the LH side bar but not the RH side and stay in all except 2 rooms so check carefully before booking your room. The very first time we stayed we were planning to use it as a base but eat out perhaps in Windermere or Bowness as we had done on many previous visits to the lakes. However the weather was awful when we checked in so we decided to stay in and eat the first night. However it was so good with a reasonable and varied choice that we ate in both nights to take full advantage of all the real ales. We've stayed a few times since and always eat in now despite many good restaurants in the Lake District. We last stayed here in November 2012 when we booked 4 rooms for our daughters 30th birthday and have just booked another few nights for ourselves at Easter 2013.

“Friendly and Child Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

The pub and restaurant has a nice friendly feel about it.
We visited a couple of times during the week and received a nice warm welcome on each occasion.
The menu was not the best, even for pub food and a little overpriced for what it was, but the staff were friendly and accomodating.
Child and dog friendly although the dogs are more troublesome than the kids which makes a change.
The range of ales brewed on the premises went down well and as it was cold and snowy the mulled wine on tap was the true winner.

“Lovely waitress”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Had a lovely lunch. Took my elderly mum and the waitress was so kind and thoughtful to her, ensuring she enjoyed her pot of tea! we even left her cushion and she came after us to car park! shame that they are not allowed to 'wrap' what an elderly person cant eat now....health and safety. but never mind. Speedy service too and good quality food. Nice to be able to set up tab too!
