“complete shambles”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2009

I had the misfortune of choosing this pub for a quick lunch last Saturday. The sign outside said the pub was under new management so I shudder to think what it was like before.

We got a table in the upstairs part & ordered our food & drinks at the bar; the bar staff did not ask where we were sitting & nor was there a table number to give but we thought since it wasn’t a huge place they must know what they were doing – how wrong we were! After placing the order we became aware of all the mutterings of complaints from people who has been waiting well over an hour for their food already; the bar girl bringing out the meals had no clue who the meals were for or even if they were upstairs or downstairs and so people were shouting out their orders meaning that half of one order went to one table & the other to another whilst the poor people who’s meal it actually was didn’t get anything. It was a mess and the girl offered no apology whatsoever. A couple of tables left without any food & the ones that got the food were not impressed by the standard; cold, frozen veg, stodgy etc.

We were asked after an hour if we were waiting for food so we said yes & it was 2 pies & the girl said she would check with the kitchen staff…still nothing arrived & 45 minutes later she came back & asked the same question again only this time we were told that she thought we’d left already & that the meals had been thrown away. We were offered a refund on our meals or we could wait another ’30 minutes’ for more food to be cooked; since we’d been there 1hour 45minutes already & she really didn’t sound convincing about the 30 minutes we decided to leave & get the money back.

The guy behind the guy giving out the refunds who I believe was the landlord was extremely impolite & not at all sorry about the inconvenience; just having a laugh with his mates sat at the bar instead & he even had the nerve to slam our money back down as though we were being difficult.

Overall a complete shambles & I certainly won’t be going back.

“Brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2009

The Globe Inn is a traditional pub with a fine selection of ales and good food. The new landlord was a help when asked what he recommended off the menu and, unlike so many other landlords, knew what was going on around Kendal. I highly suggest stopping by for a couple of pints and a bite to eat if you are about Kendal town centre. Not only was the food and beer good but the service was friendly and relaxed!

“One word-- Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2009

Being a local to kendal i know the places to eat and the places not to. The Globe is definately one to eat at. The food is excellent and so is the service. I eat there whenever i can. Homemade food is always better. Although its not just the food. They have a great selection of real cask beers and it is always a great atmosphere, makes me feel welcome. The landlady always comes over to say hello and the young lass behind the bar is always chatty (not to mention gorgeous). I would recomend this pub to anyone. First Rate!

“Worst Restaurant in the country”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2009

I had the misfortune to go to the Globe Inn with my wife on a Sunday afternoon for a meal. After ordering, we waited for 55 minutes for our food to arrive, and they got the order wrong. The food was badly presented, stodgy and largely inedible. The atmosphere was not helped by the manageress arguing with the waitress in front of the customers. It must be one of the worst establishments around.

“Traditional English Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2008

If loud music, wide screen tv's, microwaved processed food and cheap branded beers make your night then The Globe Inn in Kendal is not for you! However, if you like good background music that you can hold a good conversation over, homemade food that's freshly cooked on the premises and real cask ales (Bomber, Original and Wainwright, this is the only place in Kendal where you can taste the famous Wainwright brew) in a classical English pub environment then this is the Inn for you.
Landlady Maria Akister offers a warm and friendly welcome to all. She even has has a special children's menu and toys to keep them entertained while accompanying adults browse the extensive menu which includes meat, fish and vegetarian options.
