“Hilltop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Liked: seeing Hilltop and the staff were very informative, also liked the real bunny rabbits in the garden, running wild.
Disliked: sheer volume of people and not being able to take a picture of the outside due to se many people hovering around

“A real treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

We had been told to do this by bus and walk up, that entry was timed and that is was very commercial. We are glad we went ahead anyway. We had an elderly person who couldn't walk far. We drove our own vehicle, first at the ferry (before 9am) to cross Windermere. Then a short drive up the hill to 'Hilltop' and parking was nearly empty easy and free. A very short queue to buy entrance tickets and we were in the first ones entering at 10am. The timed entrance allows 8 people in every 5 minutes however once there is no timed exit. We spent a couple of hours in and out of the house. National Trust staff in the various rooms were very engaging answering questions and pointing out facts/things of interest. Most surprising are some book illustrations clearly recognisable to this day down to wall hangings, furniture, gates, lanes etc. Most touching a scattering of her correspondence on desktops. We loved our visit here and commercialism is limited to a small shop at the bottom of Mr McGregors garden. Hilltop was a memorable highlight of our time in the Lakes and afterwards we drove around to the western side of Esthwaite Water and happened upon a boat house converted to a cafe with easy to operate electric stable good sized dinghys for hire next door. We quietly enjoyed lunch and the lake wildlife for the whole afternoon. We thought Beatrix would have liked that :)

“Hilltop beatrix potter's home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

I have always wanted to visit her home, but every time we went the car park was always full. So we tried again last week and we went early and managed to get parked. What a treat, although entry is timed by ticket, we weren't rushed out. Once inside we could take as much time as we wanted. It felt as though beatrix had just stepped out for a little while, even crumbs on the plates for afternoon tea? The house is lovely and the gardens are fabulous, they are very small, but in the kitchen garden you could just let your imagination run away and imagine that mr mcgregor was there gardening and peter rabbit was peering from behind the rhubarb. A lovely day, i thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

“Hill Top House”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

The house was beautiful and the gardens were stunning. It was a shame that you are given a specific time to go in to the house but understandable due to the size of the house. I would allow some extra time in case it is busy. Its surroundings are absolutely stunning.
