“Potty about Potter house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

I have wanted to visit this place since my boys were tots, better late than never. Worth the wait, loved the whole place. The guides very knowledgeable and patient with visitors of all ages.
Big draw back for me was the access, from the ticket kiosk to the house, you have to walk out on the main road!! This needs re- thinking, who risk assessed this? I was nervous for the group I had with me, you can only get through the gate one at a time, which means everyone else stands on the road. There is disabled access, for vehicles, why can't pedestrains walk through the same way?
Lovely little gift shop, not over priced, would have loved a coffee, but alas there wasn't a coffee shop.Wonderful afternoon,

“Quaint”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

My wife and i visited Hill Top farm along with our two young children. Easily reached from Hawkshead or via the Windermere ferry it is indeed set in a beautiful location. Upon arrival, one can browse the National Trust shop or roam around the well manicured gardens. There is a ticketing system in operation in order to ensure the house doesn't become to over crowded but the wait isn't too long and well worth the wait. The house is just as Beatrix Potter left it and visitors are able to gain a real sense of life in days gone by. There are many of Ms Potters possessions in the house along with various sketches and letters. Even if one isn't familiar with the work of Ms Potter, the historical interest of the house is justification for a visit. As a family, we found the experience of visiting Hill Top most enchanting and would have no hesitation in recommending the venue as a few hours well spent. National Trust members also benefit from free parking and entry

“Much Better than we expected!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

I was the boyfriend being taken to a place where I can say I wasn't overly excited about but interested nonetheless.

When we got to this house it was amazing! It was although we were actually back in the time when Beatrix was writing her books. The house and surrounding gardens are beautifully preserved.

When we were leaving I had to ask if the staff were related to the Potter family because they knew so much about the history of the building and Beatrix's life. No question went unanswered.

It was actually quite hard to leave even after we had seen everything.

If you are anywhere near the lake district this is a must see.

“Beatrix,soriginal home in the Lakes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Just love going there and seeing Beatrix first home and garden in the Lakes. She brought many plants and seeds from friends to improve t the garden and acumulated "country"furniture to go inthe the farmhouse. It is lovely to recognise furniture and places within the house and garden included in the" Little Books"
