“Quaint - like a step back in time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

We wanted to stay somewhere quiet in the Lake District, and Hawkshead fits that bill! A tiny, sleepy village with a series of windy, twisty streets. Ann Tysons appealed to us when we found it online because it was so quaint, and had such an interesting history with Williams Wordsworth. We arrived a later than expected, due to not realizing the roads through the Yorkshire Dales would be so tricky on our way across to the Lake District. Mrs. Watson met us in the alley way, and hopped in to show us where to park, then ran from pub to pub with us trying get one of them to serve us food so late . (All the pubs there stop food service at 9PM), She was very concerned to help us with this....so very helpful! Our room opened right out onto the street, and was an old "split-door" so we could swing the top open and look out into the cute little street! The room had big beams on the ceiling and a nook that was obviously a big old fireplace. The room and bathroom were roomy. There was a musty smell, and some mildew in the bathroom, so if you have an allergy problem, perhaps request a room in another part of the house. Breakfast was outstanding. John , the owner was very helpful and suggested things in the District for us to do, and even gave us some coupons for a boat ride. we enjoyed our stay here, and would definitely go back.

We stayed in the 'cottage room' everything you need and even a mini fridge and DVD library! This room also has it's own car parking space. Very comfortable bed and great breakfasts, would definitely stay here again and would 100% recommend!

The location couldn't be better - right in the centre of this pretty village and close to the pubs, shops and attractions. My room was very warm and nice with tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen TV, comfortable bed and also hot water bottles if needed. Breakfast was lovely but would be even better if grapefruit or some other fruit was included. The owners are friendly, helpful and have time to chat. I enjoyed my stay there and found it to be very good value for money. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for 2 nights in the room with its own front door. Room was a good size with a king sized bed with room still left to walk around. Nice touches such as local walking guides and maps for use by guests. Only concern was the bath - if you have any mobility problems then this is not the room for you. The bathroom has modern fittings and underfloor heating but the bath is short and very deep. I am about 5 foot three and once in the bath the sides were level with near the top of my thighs! So be careful getting in and out.

Breakfast was good. Good service by friendly staff. Could do with hair dryers in the room.

We stayed one night as part of an organized walking tour and enjoyed our stay. The location is convenient -- in the heart of this "compact" and very pretty village -- and very close to the Beatrix Potter gallery, the grammar school and the parish church, also the pubs and shops. It's cosy and warm -- with charming, old-fashioned and very comfortable appointments and decor. Our host was friendly and informative, and made a special effort to track down and care for our luggage, which had been delayed in transit from our previous accomodation. Very highly recommended.

Once again we have enjoyed our stay at Ann Tyson, we requested room 6 again, as its lovely, cosy and warm, they even have two hot water bottles stored in the bottom drawer. Breakfast extremley nice and plenty of it. The owners are very welcoming and have time to chat, we hope to make another return trip later in the year
