We went to Hawkshead today and wanted some lunch, as we entered the town from the main car parking area we saw the tea rooms and were drawn in my the lunch special, a Hot roast beef sandwich. As we entered we saw the cakes, which are enormous!! The menu looked very good for a tea room, and they had a whole menu dedicated to teas! Me and my husband both had the special, and my son had the ham and cheese toastie. All the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Whilst there the people at the table next to us had fish and chips and it arrived all wrapped up in newspaper which was a cool touch. The presentation of the food is fun and interesting. Our chips came in a miniature plant pot! We took our kids and were pleased they had a high chair, unfortunately it was broken, but the lady helped us to try and make it use-able by using a cushion to raise my little boy up, and I got the impression she would be sorting it out asap. Unfortunately the cafe is very intimate (cramped!) inside, which would mean taking a pram in almost impossible, so may not be suitable for everyone. Also they have no toilet, which when visiting with kids is almost essential, we had to go and use the bathroom at the pub next door!
Not normally the pudding type we were drawn into buying a piece of the HUGE raspberry and pistachio cake and we were not disappointed. I'm not sure anyone could eat a whole piece themselves, but I'm sure many take the challenge!
