“Good Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

It was the last day of our week break so took an easy relaxing walk over from Ambleside via the Coffin route to Grasmere and decided to pop in for a light lunch and refreshment. The service was ok, nothing out of this world, the ales are bottled but at pump prices but with a good selection (Loweswater Gold, Langdale and the likes). We sat outside in the sun but the inside looked pretty small with décor not really suited to the location, black leather seats in a retro America dinner style. I had a toasty and my wife had a sandwich both came with French fries, both really good and at a very good price for this area, the dressing on the side salad was nice and we really enjoyed lunch. Enjoyed even more so knowing we hadn’t been ripped off like the feeling we get at a lot of daytime eateries in the Lakes, so we headed back around Grasmere & Rydal lakes taking in the scenery for the last time on this trip.

We would return through day not sure I would for evening meal and relaxing drink.

We had a lovely meal here this week, venison pie and Thai chicken curry, followed by a dime cake. The service was very good, it was quiet in there, but the manager came out and was talking knout the great artwork in the place. Would definitely consider staying here on a future visit to Gras ere, thank you.

Just returned home from a 5 day break in the lake district and were lucky enough to have a beautiful week of sunshine. We visited Ash cottage on the first evening and kicked of our break with a fantastic tasty meal, food was very fresh and tasty, and the service second to none! My wife and I asked to see a bedroom for a stay in November and we where wowed by the views from the 2 rooms we where shown which were spotless and very nicely decorated/furnished which after seeing we will most definitely book once our holidays are confirmed. We ended up dining at Ash cottage 3 times during our stay and it was our favourite eatery in Grasmere.

Best BED & Veiw of all of Grasmere in room 10 on my 33 anniversary. Loved having hot coffee , fried eggs , bacon , juice every morning and then taking off on a hike , visiting " Wordsworth house " and getting Gingerbread at "Sarah Nelson's ginger bread shop " . This place is like a magical dream out of the movies for my husband and I . We recently saw the movie " the trip " with Steve Coogan & Rob Bydon .. It was also filmed in Grasemere . This is the most charming and friendly hotel .

Stayed for a week in Grasmere from 23/3/2013 not at this Hotel but self catering just around the corner at Beck Allens (would recommend) Eating out in Grasmere is much more expensive than say Ambleside & Bownes. We did not find a good old English pub in the village to eat at but ash cottage came the closest. The decor is a bit modern but the service is friendly and price wise the best value for money in Grasmere. If you are looking for entertainment then there is a singer on some nights.Worth a visit.

Visited recently with friends.

We all had a meal but the menu was limited to say the least. We all had different dishes which were OK but nothing spectacular. Best described as normal pub grub.

The establishment does have a good selection of draught beers and lager.

Whilst in the premises there was live entertainment on which consisted of a female singer who was pleasant to listen to.
Would not rush to eat here again.
